Am shocked -shetland foals as christmas presents!

depends on whether you love your children...you are happy to set a wild *****land on them!

In all honesty thought THAT is appauling!
 
That sort of painful advert is the reason I refuse to even visit that site ever again! Some of the stuff on it is heart wrenching!

Here's hoping they end up with decent homes:mad:
 
Can't help but feel a little bit sorry for the poor ****lands... Sure they give everyone hell, they escape from everything and will eat you out of house and home, but do they really deserve to be wrapped up and given to a little snobby rich kid for Christmas - no, not really.

Wish people would understand that a small horse is still a horse and it needs the same careful consideration before purchase
 
I wish I could get one...but I couldn't choose just one and I can't afford a horse at the moment...not even a little one! Poor things :( I hope they find nice homes.
 
Is that advert a poor-taste joke? If not that is appalling! The saying "a dog is for life, not just for Christmas" springs to mind here, however I think it can be broadened to include any animal. They should not be advertised as "Ideal Christmas presents" - they are living creatures that require care for the entire duration of their lives and the breeder should think about that aspect of the issue and try to ensure they are taken seriously as animals with needs, not as over-sized, breathing fluffy toys as "Christmas presents".
I hope they end up with caring homes.

It must be something going around a local breeder is advertising foals on preloved as Barbie ponies and what every young girl wants.

Personally I think this is the lowest....
I just hope the poor creatures find good homes.

Can't see the ad on dragon driving, how much are the shetties going for? Someone has just text me asking if I know any for sale so I'll direct them to the ad :)
 
Poor wee ponies. That is shocking. People do not realise they cost nearly as much as big horses to keep. And twice the work with trying to keep weight off them and laminitis free.
I bet the erse will breed more this year.
Its so sad.

Reminds me of a boxing day a number of years back...

A guy i very vaguely knew knocked on my mums door with 'Hey you have a horse right? What do i do with this?' Curiosity overcame me and i followed him out to his small van, he opened the back door and there was this tiny shetland (looked just weaned) with a blue rope round its neck standing in the back of his van staring at me with wide eyes. :eek:

His comment? 'See what the ** do i do with it, look at the mess its made...:mad:

He then explained that he got the pony for his daughter for xmas off a guy in the pub, who knew another guy, who had wonderful garden sized ponies which his kids would love. He tried to put the pony in his garden on xmas eve, his wife went nuts and told him to get rid of it before it destroyed the place and dont let the kids see it. (obviously a drunken 'wife will love me for getting this' type thing) so he put it in the van on xmas eve with a washing up bowl with water in and left it there. All Day and Night it was left in there, with only straw to eat, the poor little boy.

After giving the guy a Very, Very VERY good and proper telling off and reading him all his not existant rights. I took the little mite off his hands and he ended up in my mums kitchen while i went round knocking on next door to get some hay for him (thankfully next door breeds rabbits and had a normal sized bale lol) then went round trying to find somewhere to keep him till i could find him a home. Found him a lovely home eventually in a ladies adjoining paddock, who said i could keep him there for a week and fell in love with him.

Wish these stupid people would use just a tiny portion of there brains to think with. :mad:

I must have an exceptional shetland. He doesn't try to escape, he doesn't eat me out of house and home and he is great with little kids. He's only 3, bought him as a 6 month old for my mum for Christmas.
 
I think these ads come around every year, there was a very similar post about one last year. You can't stop these idiots but the sites they advertise on should not run these ads. Its clearly a creulty case waiting to happen. :(

Very sad sale, would like to sell as 1 herd, but would separate.

There must be something wrong with me, if he can get good homes for them, is it not better than the meat man, OK "a Sheltie for Xmas" is not good.
I assume he has too many mouths to feed, and would sell them as a job lot, not sure why that is so awful, maybe we are assuming they are best left in his hands to be sold at Christmas next year?

It was more that the 18 mares were in foal once again. If they all foal down next year that little herd has produced 30 shetlands in two years, not a problem in the boom days but now in the bust days...

But the mares are ALL IN FOAL FOR 2012!!!! Why put them to a stallion when you need to cut down. Sorry seller/breeder is an *rse.
 
Maybe now not the time to confess have bought daughter mini shettie foal for xmas :eek:
in my defence it was part of the deal when we sold her outgrown riding pony, and it will be shown in hand and possibly broken to drive.
Also getting a shetland foal same age so it has a playmate same age and can be on restricted grazing together away from big horses.
And mummy on hand to do all the looking after, training etc :)
 
I don't agree with advertising any animals as xmas presents as it does encourage people to buy them on a whim,adverts like that should be pulled but lets face it that particular website is not going to:(
i don't have a problem with people giving animals as presents if it is properly thought out, i had my bullmastiff for my 40th and my daughter had a foal for xmas 4 years ago:eek: we didn't wrap either of them though, although i did make the dog wear a bow round his neck on my birthday:o:D
