Am biggest muppet!

Guess who has a lovely 'voice note' on her phone, recorded off the home PC.

Guess who changed a particular mates ringtone as we thought it apt for her, a couple of 2 days ago  ........

Well, I was out hacking this morning & said mate calls me! :)

All I can hear is hounds singing when full on, with hunting horn going too.......

Cue 1 large Fuzzy awakening from the usual summer torpid gentle plod mode when on its own - & turning itself inside out, looking for said hounds! whilst dopey rider (muggins!:D ) was frantically digging out phone to stop those hounds

The rest of the hack home was very alert & sprightly, just like winter time :D

Note to self: in the summer, dont put on unusual ringtones on phone which Fuzzy might find exciting & turn into a pogo-stick on steroids

My mate also pished herself when I played the recording back to her! :D

Am giggling now & it was so funny on the rest of the ride back with a very sprightly Fuzzy, but whilst trying to fish phone out of phone pocket & Fuzzy madly whirling round trying to find those hounds which were always behind her, it was a bit frantic! :D

I would imagine it was somewhat similar to the time a pheasant called on the TV, and the dog went nuts trying to flush the smell-less, invisible bird out of the magic box:rolleyes::D:D:D I have no idea to this day how that programme ended!

I had a similar thing last weekend... OH was doing a long distance walk with friends and I was support vehicle. Well, for one of them I decided to ride up the valley bareback with all the stuff to meet them, collect the dog and lead dog and donkey back down the road.

As I was half way there OH rings me to tell me they were running behind time... Buyt donkey heard the hunting horn ringtone, and we instantly had (what my friend describes as..) Splatty Doofas down his socks. Plus we then had a longer than anticipated wait for OH et al having jogged all the way up the valley!

Well we are more stupid than you haha!!

The young lad went hunting for his first ever time in March, we wondered if he would know what it was all about, so on the very quiet hot hack today, the lad was plod plod, queue me playing the hounds and huntsmen noise on my phone (I wasn't on youngster)

OMG lol!!!!! He grew 2 hands!! started pawing, lowering head, mouth open, evading bit, raising head evading bit, running backwards, wouldn't stand still, pooed through the eye of a needle and his brains were blown for the next 3 miles!

Errrr he knows what its about! So a question to all you lovely people:-

He's not strong hacking and we hack him in his eggbutt frenchlink snaffle, His steering still isn't wonderful, but then that is something we are working on!

Out hunting he was ridden in his french link, strapped his nose shut with his flash and put a running martingale on him, first time ever he was strong, but was bearable, only had one incident where he was steered into a muck heap so he didn't overtake field master!

So with him going a bit daft, we will assume he won't be so quiet next hunt!
Would you:-

1) give him another chance in his Frenchlink or
2) put something else in his gob , and if so what would you suggest?

Have schooled him in a full cheek loose ringed nut cracker snaffle with keepers ( didn't seem any different).

I also spend summer hacking in an eggbutt french link with loose (ornamental really) cavesson noseband, adding a running martigale if we are going for a jolly on a xc course or with 'sprightly' friends.

For the winter outings with them noisy hound-things ;) its a 3 ring french link with 2 reins, flash & running m/gale or a rugby & running m/gale  (alternating, to keep her on her toes!) Brakes are paramount with large Fuzzy, who goes beyond reasoning on exciting occasions.....

Have fun!

Go with what he's using, but be prepared to add something for the next time.
You could even carry a few items on the box, then if all else fails, you could possibly go back to change (if there is time & you are very local of course).

I've been known to even carry something stronger in a good-sized bum-bag  which has gone on after an hour! (1st time this was for a lovely NF mare, who got very silly in the brakes dept) I sent her out with daughter in french link & runner, then changed to happy mouth american gag part way through... not easy doing the change - but it did do the job! (obviously needed different cheek pieces too)

That was the time when daughter (aged 13 & only 4ft 10 then) put the pony at a 5 bar gate to try to stop it - and pony popped it! This from a tanking canter with chin on its chest, also finding out that there was a natural drop of over a foot on the other side, making the take off side 4ft 9+, & landing almost 6ft 6, no mean feat for something of 14hh, but when their blood is up.... (they landed safely, but pony baffled as no hounds & field with it, so it pulled up :D
