I've been looking forward to today all week - our first dressage outing of the year - then I wake up and find that its tipping it down

The show is on grass, both for tests and warmup, and I'm last in in two of the classes. Didnt want to risk Ellie's legs - we dont have stud holes, and I have seen too many horses slip over in slippery collecting rings to want to risk it.

Maybe I wrap Ellie up in too much cotton wool, but it just isnt worth it to me. She hates the rain at the best of times, although had the tests been in an arena, I would still have gone.

And to top it all off, I'm now £27 down - which I can ill afford - with no test sheets to work on

Ah, no chance they can move to a school then as they don't have one! Not been up there recently so don't no what the ground is like.
Could you no go for the W+T, She shouldn't slip to much in that and you can see what the ground is like for the other tests?

Too late now, not plaited or anything, and it takes an hour to get there. And it truly is tipping it down here! Such a shame; I'd wonder whether they might be cancelling anyway, because Wadswick wouldnt want their fields churned up!

But they dont give any mobile numbers on their website, so I havent been able to do anything other than email

Oh I’m so sorry for you! The British weather stucks! I totally understand you not wanting to push it though, I would be the same!
Oh I can say is there will be plenty more dressages!

I was meant to be doing an Eventer Trial today (also pre entered) but it is tipping it down so decided against it

The ground there is grazed all year so very little grass, with lots of rain on top of the rock hard ground, it would be sooo slippery. Plus Toff is in season and doesn't like rain at the best of times!!

FWIW i think you are making the right decision especially as ellie hates the rain. as jobo says there will be plenty of other dressage events. i know losing the entry fee is a pain but better that than a broken horse. i wouldnt have gone out in this weather either, there is just nothing fun about competing in rain like this!

I seem to have lost a fortune this year in entry fees due to rain, wind and then snow!
Good on you for putting your horse first, theres always another day

Thanks everyone, I know I've done the right thing - what I've lost in entry fees is a great deal less than I stood to lose had we gone and something awful have happened

Ah well, have to start looking for the next show now, onwards and upwards as they say!

I've got the same thing - was gonna take my loony tune to her first ridden show in 8 months today.

Was prepared to stud up if it was wet so the rain isn't a problem, but its too windy to risk travelling and they cancelled it anyway.

It's all good and well to say there'll be other shows but

I had the opposite problem. I was meant to be doing a riding club one day event, but they cancelled - got the call just as I was putting the last plait in!
I found some clear round show jumping within hacking distance of our yard so did that instead but feel a bit deflated as missed out on my cross country, although at least I haven't lost my entry fees, which is a real pain.
