So have had Daisy my cob for 15 months now, she was very green when I got her, had not done a thing, but very quiet and great with the kids.
So my plan is to go hunting this year. I have been having jumping lessons for the last three months, and she is doing sooooo well, not a bad bone in her body.
My instructor rang up the local huntsman and his wife, who take the bloodhounds out every morning for excercise horses and all,

and asked if i could come along on my horse with them to see her reaction to the hounds etc, and they have agreed, so I am so excited and a bit scared, but I think it will be a good test for her (and me!) to see how she will react.
I will let you know when, but it looks like at the moment it will be next Friday.
Yay.
Sorry to bore you, but I just had to share.

Good for you!!

Its such a good idea to aclimatise them to hounds before their first meet if you're able to. Its then one less thing for them to get heated up about on your first meet.

I wouls always suggest taking a propper hunting whip, if you let the thong hang down the hounds are less likely to run between your horses legs....

Have fun! I keep thinking that I would love to start hunting. I am based on a hunting yard but I don't actually like jumping so I don't think I'd be very welcome.
