Currently, and at my new yard, there is no running water directly into troughs, they have to be filled manually. Having recently escaped a fractured spine I needed a way to get water into buckets in the field, without either carrying lots of buckets at once or doing ten trips. I discovered this while buying a new wheelbarrow :

It is amazing! It has a non slip base and should do the job perfectly. Not use it yet but had it out the bag and looks brilliant!!!

NB is it ok to post things like this - I have not invented it or anything, just thought it might be useful to you guys as well!

I have book marked the page!!!

Thank you!!!

we have one at the yard and they are wonderful things, take a while to fill up, but can be left while you do other things.

My horse thought it was going to eat him when he first saw it though!

I've got one & it's been great. It did get a tiny pin hole within 3 days, but it barely leaks & has saved lots of trips across the field as I can now fill 2 tub trugs in one go.

Its not too heavy, I can manage it & I'm of quite a small build.

Somebody at my old yard had something else that you might be interested in. It was like a plastic barrel but had a handle that was attached to each short end. Once filled you just pull the barrel along using the handle and of course becuase it is round it rolls after you nice and easily. Not sure where it came from though.

wow, that looks fantastic

i have to make a couple of trips from the water supply to my stable on the liv yard, maybe i'll persuade my mum to get one of these LOL thankyou for the link!!

That is such a good idea - thanks for posting that.

Our current field has an automatic drinker thankfully but who knows what fields we will be put in over the winter and I hate to-ing and fro-ing!

Having used one, it's no where near as easy to fill up a bucket as that photo makes it look, acurracy is impossible so everything ends up wet or you have to manhandle the bag just like you would anyother canister.
But for trougs that wouldn't be a problem as you've got a nice big area to aim at.

I have had three of these during the summer, I was v.careful with them but they all sprung leaks and ended up coverred with duck tape, after getting my OH to buy the last one I now have a tank of water on a trailer to fill the field buckets up. I agree the water bags are a brilliant idea but the plastic they are made of lets them down.

I have one, it is not as good as I was expecting. I find a very sturdy wheelbarrow is needed, plus I have found the bag slips out if the barrow, even with the non-slip mat in as I am filling up the bucket, which has lead to several very wet stables, and very "interesting" language from me! So it is currently sitting in the corner of the yard, not having been used for several weeks. It's a good idea, but seems flawed IMO.
