Hi,

I am researching a surprise birthday present for my wife and would appreciate any ideas / suggestions you may have as she has always dreamed of doing the American ranching experience (just hope she comes back) :D

I am keen to get her somewhere friendly where she would be made to feel as part of a family given that it would only be for a week or so. I've looked on various travel sites for ideas but often hearing from people that have already done it is often much better.

I would like to send her in November so I guess it would be somewhere like Texas. She is an experinced horse-rider.

Thanks,

Lemorne

What a lovely present :D

I'm afraid I'm no use regarding places though :(. Have you checked the weather for Texas for November? I was there a couple of months ago - very (very) hot and very humid, I wouldn't have liked to have ridden in it (walking to the shopping mall was enough exercise lol).

Fingers crossed you find the right place and that she has a wonderful time :D

I went ranching in Wyoming very nice experience also rode a donkey down the grand canyon :D Where ever you go make sure you go when the rodeo is in town it is soo much fun too watch the kids even have there own version where they ride rams! Baseball is also very fun to watch especially the minor league games as its very friendly and cheap :)

There are some nice ranches in Wyoming I would google it and they range in prices from really nice luxurious ones to ones which are more normal :p

Try the TX ranch website www.txranch.com super friendly and a real taste of the Old West. It's based on the Montana / Wyoming border and run by Hip and Loretta Tillett. Amazing riding, horses and scenery and a lot of 'steer'. Plus nights spent out around the campfire drinking coffee, watching shooting stars and listening to coyotes!!!! Doesn't get more real than that!

As HoHum has said though I think that during November it is all snow and to be honest not sure if they are working then. Could you present her with the gift or plane ticket on her birthday but have the trip at another time of year?

And what a fantastic other half you must be to think of something like this as a surprise present. Are you available in the shops? :D
