I've just read the thread that suggested people take a lorry load of rugs, feed, etc etc to the Horse Trust to help with the rescued horses. This is a fabulous idea and I was wondering if anyone knows whether there is a drop off point in/near S Wales? Our yard would fill the YO's lorry and she would be delighted to drive to a collecting point. Gonna e-mail Horse Trust with this too and will put up a post if I can get any info.

Some of us girls from our yard are probably going to get some hay up there and donate it,were about 30 mins away from the site so it won't be a prob. I'll probably ring them and ask if they need anything in particular that the horses need.

Fab hun. I have PM'd Ovidius and put us forth and hopefully we can multiply feeds, rugs and cash

Right, I think we need to get poster of sorts around to local businessess. You are good at badgering ...

Calling all the Welsh contingent, want to meet Llwyncwn and her gang? Lets have all your rugs, tack and cash ... there's a full 'English' breakfast in it for you

If something is sorted for S. Wales, will you please you post it or PM me? I'm sure I can rustle something up.

I am supposed to be going to the SDA AGM on Sunday, which is in Charvil, around 45 mins from the Horse Trust centre. Not sure if this is enough notice or any good but I could take donations there from the Caerphilly/Cardiff area. I have a people carrier that can be emptied of all the junk and filled with stuff!

Hi all, here is a response from RedWings to my email, asking whether they would like us to arrive with stuff:-

***

Dear (armhole)

Thank you so much for contacting us and for your generous offer of help
following yesterday's rescue operation. It is lovely to hear from
people
who are passionate about horses and equine welfare, especially at a
time
like this.

Fortunately, we have all the resources needed in terms of stabling and
land to ensure that the equines that have come into Redwings receive
the
best possible care. We do however rely 100% on donations from the
public
to fund our work and we would therefore be grateful for any help and
support that you may wish to offer in this way. Likewise donations of
rugs, blankets etc are both welcome and needed. If you would like to
donate any such items please see our Visit Us pages on the website for
the locations of our Visitor Centres where staff will be happy to
accept
them.

We have also had many generous offers for temporary or permanent homes
for the equines in this case. Those that have come into our care
currently require the expert veterinary treatment that Redwings can
provide and the case involving their rescue is ongoing. At present,
these equines will therefore need to remain in our care to receive the
help they require at this stage.

You may like to follow the link below to our website for more
information about this and previous rescues. Likewise you may be
interested in joining our mailing list so that you receive our latest
updates which will include information about this and our other many
welfare rescues.

Thank you again for your offer of help and please do not hesitate to
get
in touch if there is anything else that I can assist with,

Kindest Regards and Best Wishes

Rachel Fairhead

Regarding the Horse Trust, I phoned them yesterday and so did a couple of other people from this forum, and they do not want us to bring them anyitems, just to donate cash at this stage. I suppose you can't blame them in some ways, they are getting a lot of attention and want to stop people arriving, also, bear in mind most of these horses would be horrified at the thought of having a rug put on them, and not only that, the vet's and farrier's fees are going to be astronomical.

Mind you I would have thought they could do with as much hay and feed as they can get their hands on now.

Ovidius and I were talking about taking them a trailer load or a lorry load, we wouldn't mind stacking it where they say and also giving a day's mucking out/poo picking.

I will continue speaking to Ovidius and we will probably make the journey middle of next week.
