I need a summer turnout rug (no fill) for my Shire x Tb, she's about 16.3hh, and big built.
Would the Amigo 600D Lite be any good for her?
Or do you have any alternatives?
I don't want to spend a lot of money on her this year, as I'm not convinced she's finished growing, even though she's 4yr old.

Mine leaks in heavy rain - wouldn't buy another

Have the 1200D MW though which is fab so the 1200D LW might be worth a go (if they do one??)

Ah, thanks for the warning. A leaky rug is useless, so I won't buy it then.
I wonder if anyone has the 1200D Lite one, and could let me know what it's like?

Well if mine wold ever arrive

Wouldn't recommend buying it from Derby House if you don't want to wait a few WEEKS

My horses have always had the 1200D lite which is a loovely light weight. Like you I wasn't going to spend that much on a growing baby so went for the cheaper 600D.

I also have the 600D and it too leaks when faced with anything more than drizzle.

I have four Rambo 1200D turnouts though (although medium/heavyweight) and not one of them leaks. I have seen threads before where people say the 1200D lightweight is a fabulous rug, but the 600D leaks.....of course I didn't see those threads until I'd bought the blasted thing!

Only other advice I have for you is that I find Rambo's come up small so would recommend you buy a size bigger than normal if you don't want your horse's bum to get wet!

You have confused poor old me. Are you saying you've had the 1200D Lite one and would recommend them?
(Oh, and I've had my own DH shopping 'experience' - never again

Mines been great but only used spring/autumn so torrential rain not such an issue.
Only thing I would say is neck isn't adjustable on mine so if your girl has a v. big neck it might be a squeeze as mines a perfect fit on TB

My cob has the 600D - see sig.

Fits extremely well, is properly lightweight and has never leaked yet despite being worn to death. She has managed to remove the tail flap by scratching her arse on the gate but it is otherwise well constructed.

I have a couple of the 1200D lightweights and they are great rugs, I also have the combo 1200D MW and that has now done 3 winters and is still as good as new. For the price they are very good value for money.

ive got the 600d and its been through 2 winters and 2 summers with no leakage. saying that though this year its took a beating from my mare playing in the hawthorne hedges so has a good few tears on it so ive invested in the 1200d lite at very reasonable cost on eileen douglas website (thank yoo to whichever HHO'er recommended the site)

I have a 600 lite, and it's fantastic, never leaks and it's on its fourth summer this year.
I bought a 1200 (navy) lightweight one, and had to return it for a refund because it leaked like a sieve. I bought a Rhino instead, which has been great.

I have a medium weight Amigo which is brilliant.

They are, however, very narrow in the chest, so I doubt that it would be good for a chunky cob. The Rhino is narrow, too.

See, I was told this and bought mine fully prepared to send it back if it didn't fit my chunky Welsh Cob, but it actually fits her like a glove! She has very large shoulders and still has plenty of room, it doesn't slip back and there's no pressure on the withers.

They seem quite true to size, she's usually a 6ft or 6ft 3", I bought the 6ft and would go for the same again.

Gratuitous rugshot

Are you implying my warmblood (Shire x Tb) could in any way be described as a cob?!

Apologise at once.

PS Thank you for the rug info.

I have got the 1200D and it has been fine. One of the front fastening ripped off but it has never leaked. I would buy another one. Every 600D rug I have had has ripped very easily and/or leaked.

Yes that is cheap as they are going up in price as Horseware have put there prices up so go for it. I have the 1200d for my horse and have never had any problem at all with it or from customers. I do get comments about the 600d in heavy showers

I've got the 600D LWs for a QH built like a tank, a fine TB and a TB with massive shoulders and the rug fits them all well. I previously had an arab and the rug also fitted her.

I find the L/W comes up small so always ordered the size up. It's never leaked <touch wood> or ripped.

I found Cybercheckout the cheapest, pretty sure I got the L/Ws for £24 or £28.

I have the 1200d L/W for my 3yo irish draught. He has big shoulders and it fits him really well. He had it on all winter and it didn't leak once. He's grown out of his 6'3" so I need to purchase another one - I'll try the website mentioned as they are £10 more expensive at DH - never again!!!

I have a feeling that's the one designed as just a summer sheet, so won't be as waterproof as the LW rug? I have had Amigos for years, love them and will buy more. Mine have never leaked, even in the heaviest rain. I actually use the LW as a top rug for when it's cold with heavy rain, as all of my MW and HWs start leaking.

I have also found that the 600's dont keep the rain out. the 1200's are super .....they are the navy ones. Great fit on my ID.

Thanks for the advice - she's at least a 6'9" so I'm running out of 'sizes up' to go for.

If only my stunting policy had been more effective.
Sounds like the 1200D is the one to buy.

I've had Rambo's, rhino's & now the amigo 600D lite on a VERY chunky sec D - fit fine & the 600D is presently used as a waterproof layer over a very old, kn**kerd rhino (which got millions of little tears from a hawthorn hedge so OK in dry) and this combo has been great as horse wrecked 1 year old rhino by ponios in field playing tag with her rug (whilst she was still in it !).

I'd go for the Premier Equine rugs any time over Amigo.

I find the Amigo's rip and leak easily, especially as my pair are out 24/7.

The PE rugs are also nice an deep, as most rugs on my big girl look like mini skirts!
