I'm torn between the bug buster or the sweet itch hoodie..

Does the bug buster actually repel flies AND midges?

But I don't just want to repel flies I actually want to give my mare the best UV protection that I can, so I want to kill two birds with one stone as it were.

I thought the Sweet itch hoodie gave more coverage ie wrapped under belly etc and would be softer on the skin. At least that is the general rule between sweetitch rugs and fly sheets in general.

I can't give an opinon on either of these since I have not used them, however, Bruno became very sensitive to the 'summer'

The vet had no idea what exactly what it was - sun, flies, midges, pollen that was causing his skin problems. She suggested a Boett rug - pricey but wow! Since using it his skin problems have been manageable. I would highly recommend this rug to anyone having any problems with bugs, sweetitch etc

We don't have any skin problems or sweet itch, she's just hacked off the flies! Bless her, she had a horse fly on her butt the other day and bucked and bucked because she couldn't get rid of it and I was trying to get close enough to flick the fly off and put her fly sheet on (weatherbeater) without getting kicked!!!

You need more protection if you have SI than a standard fly rug. I have heard the SI hoodies are good though from people who used them.

I used to use the Rambo fly protectors, but even with spray they were not quite enough protection so now have bitten the bullet and gone for Snuggy spic and spans with the extra addition of udder for Farra and sheath for Chancer covers.

Had them a week and they have stopped rubbing their bellies and seem very happy in their body bags.
