is it any good? does it twist due to the lack of leg straps and also is it tough and atleast a bit water proof?

thanks if not what other light weight rugs (without spending a fortune) are good... they are mainly used to stop dirt getting all over the beast needs to go up to a 6'6 which shouldnt be too difficult i hope! :) thank youuu

I bought a 2nd hand rug as you described although mine has about 100g fill so not sure if it's the same! Anyway mine is brilliant really waterproof and my boy takes 6ft 6. His field mates have managed to rip a hole in the tail flap but never mind :)

I have the Mio m/w which has been pretty good & I have 2 Amigo l/w. They are robust & have never leaked. Derbyhouse have a sale on at the mo though, so I am debating getting their Heritage l/w for £35.

I've used one on one of my horses through this really wet weather and it hasn't leaked at all. It is very light so the hair stands up underneath it and occasionally she's needed a slightly warmer rug but as a rain sheet it is fab and I am going to get one for my other horse as I'm so pleased with it.
It seems fine without legstraps and my horse loves the buck, whizz about and roll. She's out 24/7 and it's never twisted.

I have a few light weight amigos, and one middleweight. None of them twist. One of my liveries has a light weight mio and it is fine, but another livery has a middle weight mio and it twists. But out of nine amigo rugs on our yard, it is the only one that twists. Maybe it's the horse? But none of her other rugs with leg straps do it.

oo i didnt know that may have to go have a look on their website would rather buy something that was good quality and cheap! haha :)

I like the Derby house dark navy light weights as they are 1200 denier and they keep my two really dry. I bought them when my amigos all gradually got ripped.

No its not really any good imo. Its their most basic budget range so of course you get what you expect from a very budget range. Yes they twist, no they arent tough.

Have a look for rugs in the sales that are better quality, their next rung up on the ladder, the Amigo range is better, I just got a nice 1200D (with fill) one for under £40 from Hope Valley Saddlery, and a 600D no fill for about the same price (not expecting the 600D ione to be very long lasting though).

see thats my problem i do have a light weight with no leg straps just a filet string and it twists and i cant use it on him anymore because it gets silly... whereas none of the rugs with legstraps i have twist so im reluctant to buy one if it does twist... he has never had an amigo rug so i dont know how well they fit him but no one else seem to havea problem... maybe hes too broad for them across the chest?

I would recommend this rug http://www.derbyhouse.co.uk/Equestr...age+Standard+Lightweight+Turnout_401-0014.htm

rather than the heritage as it is twice as strong an outer and also more durable.

ETA: Just seen that they are nearly sold out though. They will get some more in soon, but most likely they will be back on at £64.99. I waited until they were buy one get one free before buying the two for my horses.

I had a mio, it lasted a week on a non rug trasher.

I use Amigo 600ds or premier equines.
Depending on size you can sometimes pick up the amigo 1200d for a good price. Shop around.

There is someone selling brand new premier equine lightweights on preloved for £45.

Amigo rugs are great, all of ours have a lightweight each and they're fab! Very lightweight, surprisingly waterproof (especially for 600d) and none of ours twist, even with the mad one charging round the fields like a loony! Would definitely recommend them, Amigo's are our "go to" rugs because they seem to fit everything well and do their job.
The pony has the Mio one (navy/red) but it's still quite new so not sure how it will compare to the originals - seems to be as waterproof though, doesn't twist either.

I have the exact rug you are talking about on a few of mine and it's really good! Very waterproof, horse nice and snug in it even with all this rain! Good value for money and sits well on the horse. One of mine sometimes gets a slight twist but it's not a problem. I would say buy a size bigger than normal though as they come up small for me.

is it horrible of me to put a daisy moo cow rug on a 17.2 chestnut? hahaha

No, but you've got to put pics of it on here! :D

I had an Amigo Mio for my Section A. It fit ok, but was quite poor quality imo. It ripped at the front within 2 weeks of him having it (and he'd never destroyed a rug in the time I had him). They are ok rugs, I suppose, but wouldn't plan on them lasting long term.

Now I prefer quality over price, and do tend to pay that little bit more, works out cheaper in the long run!

Both my two have amigo rugs, one is a rug wrecking 5 year old IDxWB and the other a heavyweight cob who looks after his clothes ;) neither of mine have had any problems with their rugs and I've found they stay nice and dry in them too. Wouldn't hesitate to buy more when I eventually need to. :)

I have a Mio lightweight turnout (no fill)on one mare and a medium weight on the other mare and they both twist round, shan't be buying anymore. Like others have said, the Amigo 1200 no fill turnout is very good and doesn't budge.

You get what you pay for!

I wonder if it depends on the shape of the horse? My two are tbs, so maybe the rugs are more stable on the broader backed horses?

No. Ive had them on TB, Anglos, ISH and IDs. Slippage on everything. I wouldnt buy the MIOs again, Amigo's yes, amigo mio no.

mine didnt slip but my mare lieks going in the hedge bottoms and it wasnt tough enough and ended up with a 3ft rip along the back, it never moved though and I love the necks on them

I have the no fill red one to replace the premier equine one which started leaking. It doesnt move on him but he not one for trashing rugs etc. It did look a bit like a wind tunnel when i went up earlier as it was a bit breezing on the hill but made the surcingles a bit tighter which helped lol.

Fits well and fully waterproof

Sorry edited to add mine is amigo not the amigo mio!

My Mio medium weight has never let my horse down, through winter with an under rug and through all the recent rain it didn't move or leak at all and she does roll and run around a fair bit. Would defo buy the lightweight based on how well the other one performed. Have also got normal Amigo rugs and they too are super, they are my favourite brand by far!

I love my amigo rugs, all my rugs are horseware inclu mio and that's on foals, tbs, exmoor, cob, arab etc so not one breed. The only one that ever slipped was the one that was slightly to big.

Hello!

I've had an amigo mio lightweight (no fill) for 2 years now and I can't fault it in any way.

I haven't sent it off to be washed and reproofed after the first year's use, and doesn't let any rain through (apart from the odd day when there's relentless heavy rain for hours on end). I hate putting a wet turnout onto a dry horse, and this rug would dry out very quickly after being soaked - being completely dry and ready to be used again the next day.

Obviously rugs with higher denier will be stronger and more difficult for them to tear/rip/snag etc, in theory, but the amigo (same as all the other Horseware rugs) fits my horse absolutely perfect. He's a 16.2 TB with massive withers and chunky shoulders area, and I always use 6'6 rugs on him. With other makes of turnout, I like to use a bossy bib underneath to help prevent rubbing, but with the Amigo the bib isn't needed at all. No rubbing whatsoever on the shoulders as there's no evidence of hair being rubbed off!

It's probably due to the fact that it's such a good fit overall that it never moves when he's turned out. Maybe a rug's fit in general would determine whether it's going to move/slip, rather than it having leg straps or just a fillet string at the tail end?

I've got the medium mio and it does twist slightly. Only about 3 inches to one side, but it's fully waterproof and incredibly light even when wet so I'll forgive it.

I had no luck with the mio medium turnout, it was forever slipping to one side, and was a bit like a mini skirt on him!!! tend to go with the DH rugs now for him as they seem to fit much better, he's a stocky welsh x TB hunter type.
