im looking at no fill rugs for Taz as I gave his away and I have found the Amigo Mio and the Weatherbeeta Genero and I was wondering which one is better, keeps the rain out for longer, doesn't rip easily etc. there is only a £3 difference between the two (amigo being more expensive) so it just deciding which is better :)

thanks in advanced!

I can only talk about the Amigo as well, so far they are the only no fill rugs I've used that keep real down pours off. My gypsie cob has now had his for 3 years and we have only had a small (less than 1inch) rip repaired. He has trashed others. I haven't used the other one u mention though. He does have a weatherbeeta heavy weight that I like. Didn't clip him this year so it hasn't been used recently. Last autumn I had 3 in amigo no fill rugs and one on a different make. The pony in the other make was the only one with a rug soaked through to her coat even when it threw it down all day

I have the Amigo Mio rain sheet and I'm really pleased with it. My ID mare lives out 24/7 and she has it on to keep her clean and dry which it does even in horrendously heavy rain. I also like tht it is light enough for her unclipped hair to stand on end so she can keep herself warm naturally. I found other rain sheets too heavy and they flattened her hair which then made her cold.
My friend bought a Weatherbeeta rain sheet for her pony last winter and he was soaked through the first day it rained whilst he was wearing it. Not sure if it was the Genero or not.

Can only speak for the Mio but I hate mine. I love Horseware rugs but they must have designed this one without engaging their brains. It's really doesn't sit still, constantly moving. I wouldn't bother buying another from the Mio range!

I have my horse in the weatherbeeta genero and it's lasted all winter - no rips, kept him warm and dry :) really good quality IMO.

My boy is a chunk and the weatherbeetas fit him really well. Stupidly I thought I was getting a bargain and bought the Mio in a sale, it is an awful fit. Moves around the whole time and barely comes down to his belly. I won't be getting another one.

Ditto the moving grrr. You can straighten it out but as soon as the horse moves thats it its the move sideways again.

On the other hand it is waterproof. Depends how much it will do your head in to see the rug going sideways I guess

I have two Mios and have just bought a Genero. They are all lovely and light for summer. I don't expect them to last long, though the Mios have done a whole summer each and still seem fine. The only reason I bought the Genero was that it's a lighter colour - the Mios are black on top, not great for a summer rug, should the sun come out (which it barely did last year so it wasn't really an issue, but I live in hope). The rain was beading nicely on top of the Genero yesterday, but it had only just come out of the packet so I would have been miffed if it hadn't been. The Genero is more adjustable, having buckle attachments at the front. It has annoying leg straps which don't clip off while the Mios have a fillet string, which I prefer.

I'd always chose Amigo over Weatherbeeta - only because all the weatherbeeta's I've had haven't been at all waterproof and the newest one fell apart! Maybe I've just been unlucky, but my horse took good care of his rugs and I was so disappointed with them. Amigos however last forever, our horses have at least one each and they are fab - really do their job well, never let the rain in, so lightweight - love them! I will say that the Mio does tend to slip a little bit, but never a dangerous amount in my experience, it just gets a bit wonky - the other amigo's don't move, so maybe it's just that "model".

I have the Mio for Henry and it was a superb bargain. Got it second hand for £10 and it's never let me down. He was out in it during the deluge on Saturday and came in dry. I was amazed, given that it's 600D. It's never slipped on him, either. I left it on overnight to dry out and it was still in place the next morning.

I own & use both. Do find the mio moves about a lot & the filling doesn't go down to such a good depth as the wb. On a rounder shape horse, it is a bit short in depth. Both perfectly waterproof. The mio has a nice front fastening, but is not adjustable so if your horse isn't standard shape it doesn't help it stay still. I also find the fitting isn't standard, I've had to buy a size bigger to get the length on the back. the wb has been worn all winter & still looks good. It never moves like the mio, & the neck cover has better fittings as the velcro is covered by another flap. Overall, I'd get a wb, but use the mio as abackup as I bought 2 cheap in sale & it's an okay rug just obviously more budget cut/designed than the wb.

One thing I will say about both, they both claim to be heavy weight fillings, but with both in bad weather I've had to put another rug underneath as they just weren't warm enough in all but mild weather. I would question if they are using cheaper filling than their expensive rugs at the expense of warmth.
