I am thinking of buying one of these rugs for my WBxTB mare...

I need one with something covering the tummy area as she has a colic scar which is going to get pestered with the flies and I have been recommended to try a fly rug. The colic scar is 6 months old now, but they seem to just congregate around it!

So, I have so far found these with the tummy bits on too and was wondering whether anyone had any comments, good or bad, about them?

My Amigo doesnt have a belly wrap? Fab rug though, love Goddy's. Prob with the softer ones is they often slip....though MT products are normally excellent

i've literally just bought 2 MT fly rug combos for my 2 mares and i'm pleased with them, they fit them both fairly well and considering ones a v.slight t.b type and the others a wide welsh D it's not bad at all.I'd get another one, very soft to the touch and covers the belly well.

Mark Todd all the way, there is a strap to put through a headcollar but I don't turn out in headcollars for the stallion but it stays up very well, plus due to the v section of lycra material they can graze with the neck covering right up to the ears. I found mine doesn't slip and fits very well. So I would recommend the Mark Todd fly rug all day long. I have got an amigo one but it is not a patch on the Mark Todd and mine cost £64 although at the local event they had a special offer on them for £59. Money very well spent I have to say.

I have an amigo which is a fab rug but unfortunately doesnt have a belly strip.

I had a weatherbeeta with a belly strip and it kept coming off.

i have a mt one and swear by it, even when its quite warm it seems to reflect, protect and keep em comfortable, fits well, think is slightly on the generous sideIMHO, doesnt rub my horse,

is lovely, would highly recommend!!!

How do the necks stay up?

it has a few velcro straps that stay in place going up the underside of the neck part

My mare doesn't get hot in hers and the only thing i'd say is that she has a small belly so i have to do the belly pad up on the shortest setting and sometimes one of the velcro straps comes undone but it's never come totally undone and she seems happy in it.

My friend had a mark todd last year and it ripped in about two days and wasnt much good at all which we were really surprised about as everything else they do is excellent but looking at the pics i think they have improved! I have a shires one which is now in its second year and touch wood has no rips even though last year they were out in a field with barb wire fencing, the same friend also bought a shires for the same horse and it lasted all year and he is using it again this year! It also has a belly flap and i think is much more reasonable than those others! It is also a lovely blue colour so the stains dont show so much!
