Have been dicussing the value of my mare Hannah, and I think she does not really have any commercial value, one (of many reasons) why I wouldn't sell her. But would you buy or put any value on this horse?

16hh, 13 year old showjumping mare, £300 notional winnings in approx 2 years(in total) of affiliated comps, so low milage.

Sound as anything, easy to ride and jump, has competed up to Foxhunter and no reason why could not do again, but a bit rusty as done little for past 18 months.

Is a winner in the ring, has many firsts at big venues such as Pycombe, Hickstead and Wales and West etc etc.

Now you may be wondering why she is effectively worthless?

Well she does not do Dressage, can be ridden only in vulcanite pelhan or hackamore. Has a lot of sarcoids (although they are the dry flakey kind). She has developed more in the last few years and at some point, maybe another 10 years or more, maybe not, they most likely will effect her being ridden. They have been treated with limited success both conventionally and alternatively.

I have bred a lovely foal from her, but because of the sarcoids probably wouldn't breed again.

Anyway bored at home with not much too do so please indulge me!

She definitely has a value.....even if it's not a great one

If she was able to be used as a schoolmistress for someone wanting to make the step up to BSJA then despite anything else she'd have to be worth a grand or more i reckon

She hate's all metal bits and the happy mouth type ones, she has a huge sarcoid/sarcoid scar on the inside of her upper lip and a lot of scar tissue from this(2 removal attempts), I suspect this is why she does not like anything fussy or fiddly in her mouth. I'd happily ride her in a vulcanite mullen mouth snaffle or headcollar, but might need more for jumping!

Her sarcoids are on her face, between front legs and around her teats, so a fair few!

it's rather sad as without these she's be a very pretty mare.

I agree with Rambo!

also if she is good to hack etc then a family or teenager may want her to be happy hacker and do some jumping or hunter trials etc with.

She is def not worthless!

That's my thought, only I'd rather loan her than have a grand so I know she is OK., as this mare has been mine since 10 months and doen so much for me!

I've had some interest from here which may work out, but if not I'm wondering how to advertise her, as when I've advertise for loan before I just don't get the serious BSJA types looking at loan adverts, I guess they don't expect to get them for free!

I will also be putting word around people I know locally who jump seriously, but I had little interest 6 months ago

Did you post the ad last time on here? I may be totally wrong but did you say she wasn't very good in traffic? And the location you wanted her to go to was quite local? I apologise if I have got this wrong.

She is out on loan to a reasonable competent rider who justs hacks her and she is getting bored and the loaner finding her a bit much. I found her the easiest ride ever and even fed her oats to spice her up, but she was schooled and worked regularly with me, so I'm not convinced a happy hack only home would work!

If she stays with me she will be only a hack, but she wouldn't dare try playing up with me!!

Advertising, me surely not

Sort of, I said she has not seen much traffic, not quite the same thing! Her loaner has ridden her on the roads near her and she has been brilliant, no reason to believe she wouldn't be as nothing much fazes her, but as I keep her in the New Forest I've never really ridden much on roads! Now pigs, galloping ponies, hoards of tourists etc etc she is brilliant with.

I did and still would prefer a local home, but given that things have not really worked out, the right home is really now the most important.

Burtie, I'm sure she's a lovely, lovely girl.

But value wise - really not much now imo. Mostly down to the sarcoids, and age.

Well now that you know she definatley is good in traffic that should make it easier to loan her. It would have put me off, and nowadays being good in traffic is a major thing so you should get more responses now.

Ok, Thanks fo rthe replies. In a way it makes it easier that we all agree she has little value, partly because I really never want to sell her, but given my circumstances it would seem silly not too if she could fetch lots of dosh and that I never really want to do much with her as I'm really not into jumping again.

I can luckily keep her as a happy hack, and knowing she has little value makes that easier for me to justify to myself!

It probably all sounds a bit silly, but bear in mind I'm a bored and slightly hormonal pregnant woman at the monent, and have started thinking about things far too much!!
