Since posting my piccies of my neds condition he has put more weight on due to the very lush grass in the fields! i wanted to ask you if you think i should take him off his feed now slowly as i think he is just going to get fatter and fatter not worked him this first week due to letting him settle into a routine but will be back schooling him and hacking him 5 days a week! Is it wise to take him off his feed! I so confuzzled

he is only out through the day 8 hrs max i cant down an earlier than i am due to working! I reckon once the lush grass has gone he will be back to normal soon but i want to keep him fit too and as he is a TB he is not really a good doer and i find it hard to keep a great amount of weight on but this yr he has flourished through winter but is now a bit too well! He is fed a large sccop of hifi and a small scoop of conditioning cubes he now only has one feed a day!

Hasn't the grass started to grow now we've had some rain? Certainly reducing your horses hard feed if he's getting rounder would be very sensible. You just have to keep monitoring and adjusting as needed really. I know how hard you worked to keep the weight on him through the winter - but it is amazing how much even a poorish doer can get out of the green stuff.

Amy has just had her rations slashed - she is just doing too well, even pregnant.

Would your horse tolerate a grazing muzzle? I've had to get out my muzzle already cos with the rain the grass has exploded - as would his belly if I didn't put it on !!! That way your horse could still be out to graze for the same amount of time but only consume half the amount of grass .... I don't like using it but for me its the only way I can keep some control over his weight!!

Our grass is very lush at the moment! They have only been out a week so it is very long too! He has one page of hay at night and that feed! I may make it slightly smaller now! And once he is back in work he should loose a bit of it! He isnt out as long at weekends too! so that should help a little! At the moment when i ride him after work he is like a slug! so i dont really want to take him off much feed!
