Seeing several questions of fly sprays, I thought i would say that I have found a cheap, safe, stop to all flies and other nasties.

Use Neem Oil, you can get it from The Neem Team http://www.theneemteam.co.uk/acatal...ID_GOLD.html?gclid=CLDs7oLYg7ECFRMgtAodmVZGiA

(I am nothing whatsoever to do with the company)

Use 5 ml of Neem, 3 ml of shampoo and 1 litre of hot water and mix together sponge over the horse and it will last for several days unless the horse sweats or there is a lot of rain.

It is a wonderful natural product. I use it on the dogs to stop fleas and ticks, I dunk the hens and spray the hen houses to stop red mite, same mix for both.

Adding half more water I spray the garden to keep away greenfly and slugs and snails.

Two horses were charging about the field in a lather from the flies. I doused them in the mix in the field and they were standing grazing hardly bothering to swish their tails.

It really does work.

The down side to it is that it does smell rather foul but once mixed with the soap it isn't so bad and I would rather suffer the smell than the flies.

Thanks for that.
I remembered last night Id bought some last year so have dug it out and going to try it today.
Does it work diluted with water in a spray bottle?
I was thinking of adding it to the home made fly spray recipe but wasnt sure whether it would be ok or whether to just try it with water in a spray.

My NEEM oil mix also contains a few drops of Geranium, lavender or citronella.
The smell is a small price to pay!
I got mine from Pro Equine in Scotland, they were excellent to deal with!

Was told by vet that only thing that works is Flypro, its quite pricey but they will usually sell you a little bottle of it we paid about £15 for 250mls. It does burn so I put plastic gloves on and dabbed it on with cotton wool or gauze onto hair. Farmers use it as a drench along the cattles back end.

Pure Neem will solidify very quickly in cooler weather so can bung up the nozzle of a sprayer. This is why O sponge it on.

I would not put anything on my horses that require me to wear gloves because it burns.
I spent £90 on a 5L bottle of pure Neem, (including postage) this lasts me over a year doing the dogs, all 17 of them, 16 horses and the garden. That is over two thirds third the price of Flypro and a lot safer!

Oh, my vet is converted to using it on a pony he has that suffers from sweet itch with great success.
