Well, I am part loaning a gorgeous mare called Poppy even though I am quite a novice rider (only done walk and trot). But I had been having lessons on her to improve and get used to her. But unfortunately my instructor broke her wrists :( So I thought I wouldn't be able to learn anything for a good while.

But the competant lady I ride with helped me last night! We went out on a hack and it was a great time.

I had my first fall off a horse :D It wasn't anything major, Poppy's saddle slipped to the side and I kinda just plopped to the ground. Then I had to get back on her from the ground, another first for me :D

And then after tightening her girth, we cantered! Three times! I had never done canter but the lady told me how to sit etc. Not so easy when you actually do it though lol. But it was so amazing. I cannot believe I was so nervous about it! And I was so proud of myself for getting back on after falling and not having a nervous freak out lol.

I was just wondering if people remembered their first experiences of cantering, falling etc?

I don't think I will ever forget mine :D

Well done on the first canter, brill isn't it? I love a good canter.

My first fall was of a 13HH pony when out hacking, I cut my back when I did a backwards roll over it's bum. I wouldn't get back on him, I got on something bigger instead!!:)

Aw, fall apart, what a lovely evening :)

I've fallen off far too many times to remember  lol. Can't remember my first due to my extreme old age :D.

Cantering is a lovely feeling :). The more you do it the more you'll get into it and it will become smooth and lovely :). Very well done you :D Hot choccy with all the trimmings and a Ferro Roche :).

Ooh, another novice, great!

I'm also loaning my first horse - I can canter and do tiny tiny cross poles, so not much further on than you!

I find cantering on hacks much easier than in a school - definitely the best way to start. I learnt in the school, and really struggled getting the horses going and keeping them going, so it took me a long time to get used to the feel of canter, and be able to sit to it properly. on hacks that's not a problem (especially if they're following someone!) so you can just sit back and enjoy it!

My confession is that I have never fallen off (quickly touches wood), so really well done for getting back on after a fall!

Well doneeee :D :D It's good to get the first fall over with! :)

I don't remember my first canter because I was a very young child and I don't remember my first fall but I know it was when I was 4 :)
