Ok, really need your opinions please guys. How much would you value Spooks at now...

11.2hh 4 yr old Reg Welsh A gelding, excellent bloodlines and very well put together. The most sensible pony you will meet. He is perfect in every way, goes off the lead rein with tiny 5yr old child and walk trots canters and jumps with her. Snaffle mouthed at all times, not nappy, perfect to hack on his own or in company. Very laid back pony but not lazy, walk trots and canters from the voice and then stops if you say halt. Well schooled and works in a lovely outline. Jumps logs, ditches and hay bales etc plus colour poles and fillers.

He really is special and children just love him, easy to handle and 100% to do

Really need to know as have someone VERY keen but not hugely impressed by their offer so want to make sure I am being realistic

He sounds lovely, but I just wouldn't buy a 4 year old pony for a small child. Even if the seller promised blind that he was 110% bombproof, I'd always go for an oldie, who'd be round the block etc.

Now I know that's not very fair - but I think you may have a limited market. I'd say £1,500

you can pick up a decent Section A at most sales for £300.00

i'd price your's in the private sector at £575.00

Ponies like him are like golddust. He might be young, but the fact that he is bombproof but also very well schooled and good to jump etc makes him very valuable as a first pony.

Hard to put a price on really - a quick look on horsequest shows prices from between 2-4k for similar ponies. However the 4k ones are older and have lots and lots of show results etc.

Based on that I'd say at the moment around 2-2.5k.

I'd expect he'd be worth an awful lot more as a 7yo with a few Pony Club seasons under his belt, unfortunately. As cp1 says very few people will be prepared to buy a young pony. Probably £800-£1000 now, more like £2000+ in a few years time when he's proved his worth at competitions.

Any pictures?

As I said before, the age isnt a factor as they are not worried by it, infact they are keen as he is so young and has loads of years with them. He has done jumping and first ridden classes, always being placed, came 3rd at his first county level show as a 3 yr old

My neighbours paid £3K for a very similar pony - but a mare - three years ago. That pony was 5 when they bought it.

Ooops - perhaps should also add that my other neighbours paid £400 at around the same time for an unregistered palomino "Section A" of the same age. That one came from a riding school and was described as a perfect first pony - which it is turning into. Shame that, as novices to pony owning, they had to put up with the biting / kicking / running away with the child on that it put them through in the first couple of years.

Don't they say a horse is worth what someone will pay for it? So if you already have the buyer, he's either worth what they will pay or you don't have a buyer after all

At the end of the day without more of a show record and without experience at pony club I would say a maximum of £1500 but probably more like £1200. The age wouldn't worry me but the lack of experience would.

I think your lower offers are around £900. I had a quick look on horsemart too (searched welsh A, between 11HH and 12HH and 4/5 years, gedling) and prices around between £750 -£1500 for poines similar to spooks.

MH I think post some pics as he's a lovely looking thing and I think that would help with the estimates!

I'd say atleast £1500

Having just sold a welsh A, if Spooks is a proper first ridden (whcih he sounds) then £2000.

I have been looking for a first pony, and yours sounds perfect except the age. I know you say you have a buyer thats not worried about the age, but if you want a how much is he worth on the open market answer to give to them, then you have to accept that due to his age he'll be worth less.

I'd say he would sell as he is quite easily for £1000, and this would rise quite steeply over the next few yaers as he goes out and proves himself - in fairness you can muliply it if he's as good as you say.

The risk - and there is one - which should be taken into account for a fair price currently is that while he is perfect now, a young pony hasn't proven to be perfect over time, and it may be that he'll find his feet in a year and not be quite so suitable.

He is a sweetie but at 4 however laid back most parents are looking for older experienced pony, ie going to Arena UK indoors any youngster may be phazed by clapping etc etc.

Also an abundance of Section A's for last few years, would say between £750 and £1k, but you may get more if you get lucky.

I have had my daughter on a 4 year old when she was around 4 herself, not a good combination and we were very lucky that ours was cool dude, but wasnt working 100% and most parents buy older for kiddies.

If you want to add value to the smalls ones, get them driving and sell as a ride and drive!

£1000 from your original description. If you can get to some BSPS/PUK classes and get placed lead rein and first ridden, then you can go up to £2000, if he will jump reliably and hack out perfectly, then up to £3000, if he does all this with a novice child on board and is perfect in every single way and wins at a high level, then you could easily get in excess of £4k.

it depends on how good he really is and how much effort you are willing to put in carting him around shows etc.

I think a minimum of £1500 to £2500 from what you've previously posted about Spooks, but am in a different area to you. As FMM says you'd get a lot more if he'd competed at PUK. I think he's smashing and is a real credit to you

I think if you have in your mind what you want for him, and are not that worried about selling him, you can afford to stick to whatyou have in your mind.....they will either pay it or not.....

sounds like you have the price set in your mind to be honest. Am with others when they say around the £900-£1000 mark. Am sorry to say but no matter how perfect he may seem at the moment, he is still only 4 and if it were for my child, I would buy something that has experience. If they are happy with his age then thats great.

He sounds perfect! I cant believe some have said as low as they have, dont let him go for peanuts, I would keep him to age a bit and find a rider. I have 4 littleuns and would pay a fair price for a nice one. (if I could, lol)

If he is all that you say he is, these buyers will know hes worth his weight, dont be afraid to get the best you can! Deffo over 1K.

£1000-£1500. Even though he is 4, if people came to see him then they would see that he is so quiet. Plus if you offered say 2 weeks trial then definately the higher price.
