Well when i saw all the rain this morning i wasn't sure whether it would be going ahead. I rang up and they said "ah a bit of rain won't stop us" lol.

So i plaited Lantern up and tacked up etc and left, in the pouring rain without a coat. By the time i got there i was drenched and very early as i trotted there to get out the rain.

So ended up stood in a barn with the masters/whips drinking port lol.

So then off we went, in the pouring pouring rain there were only about 8followers on horse back including me. After about 5minutes we were stood waiting when someone walked upto me on a chestnut horse and said "oh there's Lantern". Took me a bit by surprise tbh!

But anyway her husband had Lantern when she met him, she was on a horse Lantern was stabled with . So a few facts about Lantern...

- He was imported from poland as a 9yo to be a huntsmans horse
- They decided he jumped to upright and sold him to a guy named Ed
- Lantern is a homebred polish warmblood out of some random showjumping stallion.
- Before we got him they were guna send him for meat if they couldn't get rid of him!

None of this i knew before, i'd presumed he was tbx or something similar, not a warmblood

So anyway, carrying on with how the hunting went. Lantern was a lot more hyper than last time and jogged a lot, as soon as we got on grass for our first canter he was off. I could hardly stop him in an american gag with just the gag rein. But he hardly stuck his head down in this bit.

It was pretty slow for a while then all of sudden it got really high speed. And the country was awful, you needed a seriously honest horse.

I managed to get stuck in a hedge, it was the smallest gap i have ever seen through a flooded ditch and over some planted trees. A couple went before me then i asked Lantern to go through, he was by far the biggest horse there. So we got about half way through and got stuck because the hedge joined back together he started to back up and i seriously thought i had a problem but with a bit of gentle coaxing he pushed his way through. Phew

I was then galloping over a field and suddenly hit an extremely deep puddle - also a close call.

But we are both back safe and sound and i have finally decided i'm a nutter as i'd happily go and get stuck in hedge in the pouring rain again

I would have taken some pictures but the rain broke my phone before i could

you sound like you had a great time its a good feeling to go hunting wrapped up in the rain better than horse stood in a stable all day or wet field your boy was probably so excited to be out hunting again if what you say of his passed. At our hunt we are allowed to wear waterproofs if we ask the fieldmaster before we set off but it usually go's round quicker than that if its wet !!! have fun.

Your day sounds great. I thought mine was TBx but am being told now he is warmblood.. mmm. I know he came over from Ireland but thats it at the moment.

Im thinking of hunting in an american gag. Mine puts his head down and goes. Would you use it again? I hunt on a waterford gag at the moment but he sometimes gets bruised at the sides where it pinches.

Well that's exactly what my boy does, sticks his head down and runs, Then if you are in control and ask him to stop he sticks his head down.

He did it half as much in the gag actually made him carry his head much higher which really helped. It's definately the bit i will be using, he was strong but controllable in it whereas in the pelham he was strong and not controllable!

After a full days hunting he hadn't bruised etc at all either :)
