Bit of a ramble but this is what I did today....
Started by taking Wes and Liberty down to Littlebourne in the lorry (about a 2min drive
, doing my bit for global warming), to hire their school and jumps as we are not allowed to jump in the school at the yard
, drives me insane. Was going to take William too, but Wes' owner couldn't come at the last minute, and decided that without an extra pair of hands I wouldn't do all 3 justice in 2 hrs. Left him at home as he's in a hackamore at the moment after having his wolf teeth out a week ago and control is primitive to say the least
.
Wes was very grown up, totally unflustered by the noisy flags (it was very windy), VERY bright jumps (compared to the decrepit ones we have at the yard), flowers and whole new yard place. Didn't look at anything, just popped round, so will probably take him over tomorrow night for their Wednesday evening show. The point of taking him there was for his owner to take pics of him to use in an advert, ut obviously that didn't happen. Next up Liberty - he didn't jump too well at SoE so I didn't wack them up too high, just popped round a few times at about 80cm, then finished off over about 105 - 110cm. Went really nicely, was very pleased with him. Even got a compliment off Caroline (the owner) about him which apparently is like hen's teeth! She's also said I can bring them down there if people want to try them over proper fences when I sell them, which is a relief.
Got home, turned them out, then decided to go for a mooch around the woods on William with a friend on the yard. I wanted to have a good canter round one of our fields when we got back - which I'd done once in the hackamore and had gone pretty well. Trouble was this time my friend got run away with, and then I had precious little control. It was litterally the strength in his nose versus the strength in my body! Faced him into a hedge to stop him, and just as he pulled up the strap on the hackamore broke
, and the bridle came up over his head towards me. He whipped round and set off at a gallop again towards the top of the field where the other horse was and I decided to bail - I didn't fancy galloping through the narrow slip-rails at the top, or getting to the concrete on the yard, with no control! Threw myself from him, getting a bit battered in the process, the most painful bit was my watch gouging some holes in my wrist, and also have tweaked a knee! Then took me 45 mins to catch the bugger, as the lush knee high grass was so much more appealing than me
.... Will put a pic in gallery if I can get it off phone.
