..Well I think it was interesting anyway :)

My 3 year old filly has among her field companions, another 3 year old filly, a warmblood, and that filly's 23 year old uncle. My filly has never met the warmblood's dam, sister to the gelding.

Until today.

My filly is very dominant and displays quite strong body language when meeting strange horses - arched neck, raised tail, and if allowed would try to move them away (obviously she has to behave when with me). With her field companions though she is fairly passive as they know their place, and only gets aggressive if they push boundaries.

Today we were out for a walk and met the warmblood's dam being ridden. My filly was alert as she came in sight, but as the mare drew alongside she responded to her as she would one of her field mates, and was completely disinterested as we walked together for a while.

So I can only assume that somehow the connection between the mare, her brother, and her daughter, is obvious to another horse even if they haven't met before.
