Hi all firstly Happy new year to you and hope you are well. :D
I havn't been online much lately due to the OH being off work and moaning everytime I picked up the laptop  So as he went back to work today I thought I would post a little update on the boys.

I'll start with Merryn (AKA slimfast ;) :p :D )
He had done very well at loosing all that weight he was carrying but then he had a couple of months off firstly due to abcess number 3 and just as we got rid of that the snow and ice arrived. :( Although he has been off work I have managed to keep the weight off him. He has now been sound since before xmas and has so far shown no more signs of another abcess :D My farrior came up just after new year and we desided to put front shoes on him to see if that helps stop the abcesses. I was a little worried he would not like having shoes on as he is nearly 9 and has never been shod in his entire life. But my farrior is amazing. She is so quiet and gentle with the boys Merryn just stood there and went to sleep. :D He's such a star and so far the shoes seem to be working. I have started lunging him and taking him for walks round the block and so far so good. :D

Next is the horrid one
He has also had a couple of months off due to the snow and ice. :( I missed riding him and it was even to dangorous to bring him into the yard and groom him :(. He got very fed up and became very grumpy. (Here's where the syupid OH steps in.) I was out poo picking one day and the OH came with me we were in Merryn field and the OH was messing around picking up his feet and saying what a good horseman he was as Merryn did it streight away  anyway we then went into Herbs paddock and he desided in his infanate wisdom to do the same to Herbs. He played along afew times but he soon got fed up and swung his bum round and treatened to kick. The OH said if he kicked him he would just kick Herbs back. I said good luck with that, luckly we had finished so we left Herbs alone. That night we went out to put Herbs rug on and the OH desided to give it a go. He threw the rug over Herbies bum and tried to pull it forward Herbs was having non of it and swung round and gave the OH both back legs. :p The OH leped backwards and said Herbs didn't get him but I heard them make contackt ;) Funnily enough the OH didn't kick him back and he has never offered to do the rug again  Herbs was a good boy for his mummy though :p :D
Once all the snow and ice had gone I started bringing Herbs back into work. My landlady wanted me to ride out with her untill she saw me bringing him in and he reared over my head 3 times  Funnily enough after that she understood why I needed to lunge him for afew days before I got back on him again. He was very naughty the first few times I lunged him but he soon settled down and began behaving himself again. :D
Today I took him for our first hack in months and he was such a star. It was a very spooky day. When we got to the cattle grid we met another horse and rider, There were wild ponies all over the place and a great big lorry was coming up the road. I though he was going to be soooooo naughty. He has every excuse to be. But he was a little start. Stood still while the lorry went by and then walked on through the wild ponies. He didn't even think about napping. :D We had a lovely ride through the forest and I have to admit I was so proud of him I even shed a tear and I havn't stopped smiling since we got home. :D Hopefuly there'll be no stopping us now.

Blimy thats an epic post. Well done if you got to the end. Have a big bar of choc. (if you didn't over do it at xmas that is then have something alittle more healthy ;) :p :D ) Thanks for reading I'll try not to leave it so long between updates from now on then they won't be so long ;) :p :D

Herbie sounds like he's really improved, well done!

It sounds like your OH has learned a lesson ;)

Did you manage to find a suitable job in the end?

Thankyou LizzieJ Herbs has improved so much, He's nothing like he was when I first got him :D :D and I do think the OH learnt a good lesson.

I found a part time job at a livery yard. It's 3 1/2 hours 3 times a week. Just turning out, mucking out and sweeping a yard. Prity easy stuff realy but at £6 an hour I can't complain and atleast I have some money coming in now. The owners of the yard are realy nice to which is always a bonas. :D

Thanks sychnant.
I was to embarrest to put pics up as although Merryn has kept the weight off Herbs has put abit on and is looking quite fat :o I'm such a bad mummy you see. While there was all the snow and ice I put his rug on as everyone said I was crule to leave him unrugged. When I took his rug off I was shocked at how much weight he had put on in a couple of weeks. :( He looks like he's about to have a foal :(. I've lurnt not to listen to other people now I need to just do whats best for my boys.
I'll post some pictures when he's slimed down a little :) hopefully won't take long now he's back in work. :D

Thanks MrsM I hope alls well with you and your back is getting better.

All is good ta, I think *does a quick head count* :D. New horse is proving interesting under saddle, but we have plans afoot to get back to 'normal':D. I've just claimed LOU on Dizzy :(. She'll never jump again. Ho hum. I can get back on three weeks tomorrow (not that I'm counting you understand lol) :D.

So lovely to see an update from you. :)

Sometimes its better for an OH to learn the hard way - they wont be told!

Glad Merryn has stayed sound so far, and it sounds like the not so Horrid one is being a complete star. :D

Glad the job is working out, and will send you a pm to arrange a coffee and a chat. :)

The boys seem to be doing well, they are both gorgeous btw (been looking at the pics on facebook of Herbie :) and saw your profile picture :) )
And haha at your OH, although I can sympathise, a shetland at my yard escaped when i was getting my mare in and she went to the menage. I went to put her headcollar on her and she turned round, bucked and caught my leg with both feet :( I am recovering today, ouch :(
Looking forward to more updates and pictures :)

Good to read your update, Laura. Sounds as if both boys are getting back into the swing of things again after their enforced break. Look forward to hearing more about their progress as the weather hopefully gets better, although it looks as if we are going to turn into swamp monsters over the next week with the amount of rain being forecast.

Thats good news MrsM I'm glad you can get back on soon. I remember waiting to get back on when I broke my hip. I was so impatiant and got on sooner than i should have.I've been paying for that lately though :( I'm sorry about Dizzy. :(

Thankyou muddygreymare ouch hope you feel better soon. The OH deserved it though. He's always messing around with Herbs. I always warn him but he just doesn't listen. Luckly he listened to Herbs. :p ;) :D

Thanks Dollysox. I don't need any more mud. We have so much since the snow and ice melted. :(

thanks Sprout hopefuly we can meet up soon. :)

Enjoyed the update - how good of the horrid one to be both a superstar on a hack and to teach your OH a lesson. What a good boy! When my Mum was a kid she was bitten by her dad's Jack Russell, Horse. She then said she was going to bite him back - it was only fair, to which everyone laughed. The next time Horse was asleep on the rug in front of the fire, she bit his tail. He never snapped at her again... Not sure this would work on a horse! lol.

Mrs M: glad to hear the back's on the mend. Roll on those 3 weeks!
