(also in SB, but I know lots of you in here left lovely messages on my upset thread from last night)

Firstly, thank you for all the lovely messages of support, I'm sorry I haven't been able to respond to them all individually. It's very kind of you all, and means a lot. xxx

Right, good news first - Beans has made some good progress today.
smile.gif
She is actually standing on the leg, although lame and still massively bandaged up for support. She's clearly managed to lie down and get up again, which is a great improvement on how hopping lame she was last night, when she was unable to take weight on it. The tests have shown no damage to the ligaments - thank goodness! (Although there is a chip of bone that has come off on the front of the fetlock
frown.gif
)

Basically, (if I can relay *roughly* what the vet said - It's all a bit of a blur as my head is spinning) but the reason for the sudden lameness is as a result of the arthritis, not anything else, *massive phew*. Because arthritis causes inflammation in the joint, all the blood vessels there were aggravated anyway, and then when she stumbled yesterday she's ruptured them - hence the tight, hard swelling and serious lameness.

They have drained a little of the blood out, to release the pressure, and as I say, the difference in how Be is standing on it is great.

They are going to assess her again in the morning, but are pleased with this diagnosis, and her short turn prognosis; the plan is a week of boxrest, followed by small paddock rest, which should resolve that much of her condition. SO, she should be field sound if nothing else!

Long term prognosis is not so good

As I said last night, the x-rays showed some really quite bad arthritic changes, especially for an 8 year old...
frown.gif
There are things we can do to try and limit further deterioration, steroid injections I think they said... but that's more to be explored once we've got her considerably more sound.

I am sad, because I know in my heart that she'll never be the competition horse of my dreams

and we won't have the many years of fun ahead of us that I had hoped. But she is Believe, and I love her, and she is alive, soon to be content and as beautiful and loving as always. What is more, the vets have said there is absolutely no reason at all that this prevents her from breeding (something we'd always planned), so we *touch wood* still have other dreams to come true together.

So, fingers crossed that she continues to improve so she can hurry up and go out in the field. (Be on boxrest - it sends shivers down my spine

)

Thank you once again for all the messages, hugs and good wishes, xxx

Thank goodness for some good news
laugh.gif

Hopefully it will continue to be good and the arthritis settles - sometimes it can look worse on xray than the symptoms suggest so fingers crossed for continued good news xx

So far so good.
smile.gif
She'll make a super mum one day.

SO pleased it's all looking a bit more cheerful than it did last night.
Fingers crossed she's back home with
you very soon.

So glad that things are looking more positive for Be today. Hopefully the improvement will continue day by day

Sending continuing <<<vibes>>> for her and (((hugs))) for you too Puppy

Hope she keeps on improving and surprises you by coping with the box rest well. They tend to know themselves something is wrong and settle down quickly to box life routine. Horses certainly send us on a emotional rollercoaster. Hugs to you to.

Oh bless her (and you!)
7 years ago my beloved mare was diagnosed with a problem which meant she could no longer be ridden. She became a beautiful field ornmament then after 3 years of trying we finally managed to get her in foal and I now have my beautiful boy to follow in her footsteps.
My ridden dreans never came true with her but I still love her as much as ever (most days anyway!) and she will be with me for the rest of her life.

So pleased Believe has you to believe in her x x x

So glad she can stand on her leg !
Who knows, equine health care is making such progress, some effective treatment for arthritis relief might come along.
And even if she cannot compete again, you'll be so proud to have a foal from her. B is so gorgeous
smile.gif

Hope she's back with you very soon
smile.gif

Thanks for updating us about your gorgeous Believe. I sincerely hope she is back home with you soon and that somehow things don't turn out quite as bad as you might feel they could.

I see you are quite a recent member (hello
smile.gif
welcome
smile.gif
) and must have missed mine and Be's last "incident"
crazy.gif

She had surgery on her back legs last December, and after being on box rest for 3 weeks, I went to lead her out in hand. Unfortunately, Be, somewhat exploded
ooo.gif
and I was caught in the cross fire of a buck - both barrels, in the face
crazy.gif
frown.gif

I broke both eye sockets, both cheekbones, both sinuses, my nose a few times, and my upper and lower jaw multiple times.
crazy.gif
The fractures went through to my brain, and parts of my face were split open to the bone
crazy.gif
crazy.gif
I still have v debilitating headaches, memory problems, scarring, and continuing problems
confused.gif
but I can hand on heart say I don't resent her at all, and still love her very, very, VERY much.

Thanks for this update Puppy. I'm a recent member too and wasn't aware of her history. Poor you and horsey! I do feel for you with all this worry but it is looking more positive now and I really hope she keeps on improving. Big hugs and keep us posted...

So pleased things are looking more positive. I feel for your sense of loss though about future competitions together (I've been there).
Good luck for Believe and yourself. Keep us posted.

Crikey, although was lurking on the forum for a very long time before must of missed that post, that is one hell of a lot of injuries. Double fingers crossed for you this time!! Although as you say not the horses fault, they are just doing what is natural after being couped up.

Hi Puppy! Been wondering about Believe all day but only just had the chance to login. So relieved the news is not as awful as first feared but am reeling from the list of injuries you endured in December. You both deserve to come through this with the best possible outcome and I shall continue to send vibes in both your and Be's direction.

smile.gif
thank you all, very kind of you

She was in good spirits when I saw her a little earlier this evening; being all sweet and cuddly
smile.gif
The nurse said what a love she is to do, and how well mannered she is
smile.gif
Although clearly still lame she is standing on the leg a fair bit, and is able to lie down and get up ok
