My mare has recently had bloods taken that confirmed she was anaemic. (The bloods were taken to look for the CK enzyme). The vet has prescribed visorbin. Will she need to stay on this permanently?

Sorry can't answer you question but i have 2 horses recently diagnosed as anaemic, and they are now on iron and vitamin enriched liquid in 2 feeds a day and i was so shocked at the time that i forgot to ask the vet if this was a constant thing i have to keep them both on, so will ring him tomorrow and find out and will let you know how i get on.

mine had an injection called haemovit ten( I think) for three days running and I jst have to keep an eye on him at times of change(eg coat change,if the weather is a bit unusual, working harder than normal) and if I think he is looking at bit lethargic then he gets a week course of red cell which normally nips anything in the bud

JUST ASK YOUR VET IF THEY HAVE TO STAY ON IT VISORBIN IS FANTASTIC STUFF IT MIGHT NEED A COUPLE OF MONTHS TO GET IT IN THERE SYSTEM THEN YOU MIGHT JUST HAVE TO GIVE IT WHEN THEY SEEM LOW A NOW A HERBAL LADY WHO DOES HERBS FOR HORSES WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO ASK WHAT HERBS ARE FULL OF IRON FOR YOU I KNOW THERE ARE SOME COZ MY FRIENDS HORSE WENT ON TO IT?.

I have used visorbin for an anaemic horse and i was told by my vet net to keep him on it for long periods of time becuase he will become dependant on it and that won't help him!
