I've had my rescue jrt bitch about 6 weeks - and in that time I've had to take her to the vets twice to have her anal glands emptied as she was scooting. She is fed wainwrights kibble with a spoonful of cooked mince beef. The vet has suggested that I could try adding cereal such as Weetabix or All bran to her food to see if this helps. But I'm confused - the better quality kibble such as wainwrights, james wellbeloved etc all make a big deal out of them being wheat free, but if I feed her Weetabix or All Bran then I'm just putting wheat back into her diet. Help!!!!

PS she is aged approx. 7, has had dental problems and wont eat bones.

I've had to add a teaspoon of bran to Bear's food as he leaks horribly :( Get the vet to show you how to do it yourself, saves a fortune and it's not hard, just smelly. You wormed her recently?

One of my others likes to come in after having a poo and wipes his bum on the floor! :eek3: No anal gland issues, just likes to let you know! :biggrin3:

It's the fibre which will pad out her poo and help her express her anal glands naturally. Hopefully you will only need to give it to her for a few days and it will clear it all up.

Bit of kitchen roll/bog roll and you can do it yourself! My dad is a vet so of course whenever our dogs need theirs doing he's elected for duty :D

OP says she won't eat bones and tbh, my lot are raw fed but Bear has serious issues, to the point I have a towel on my chair for when he has cuddles.
