Can anyone recommend a nice, everyday atomical bridle that doesn't cost the earth.
I quite like the look of the Shires Rapida Velocity but looking for others to compare to ☺️

Love my henry James bridle more expensive than the shires ( which I also have ) but so soft the leather and fabulous quality and currently on 15% off if you use code BOXINGDAY2022

shires is also a good choice if budget doesn’t extend to Henry James , and comes with nice soft rubber reins .

I have a Shires Avignon which is quite nice, but the Horsemanship Saddlery bridle are lovely, you can buy parts separately to get the perfect fit

The shires one is not a great shape behind the ears. I have had a long chat with a friend about this as currently undergoing bridle fitting training and recently attended the research on this and says most brands are not that great and we are being sucked in. Most people do not have a big enough browband which would solve a lot of issues. I use Henry James with next size up browband and tend to find it works well to remove pressure off TMJ and behind the ears. Everything is ridden in a cavesson as well.

I have solved a lot of issues by ditching the browband altogether, the noseband too

Is a browband compulsory in competitions? I'm simply asking out of interest, not suggesting that anyone does it

If you take a look at a properly fitted Micklem, the curve which gives room for the ears doesn't fit around the base of the ears, it fits around the bulge of muscle that in most cases is what pushes the headpiece into the base of the ears (as long as your brow band is long enough).

Micklem or Henry James for me.

When I had the bit fitter around she said that most don’t fit properly around the ears but that the HJ was one of the best ones
