It mentions nothing of any warning on her behaviour being given to the girl. It shows no picture of her, but having see my OH's 14 year old cousin and her mates and how they dress they could easily pass for 18+. I find it very unfair that thanks to some girls stupid behaviour someone will have their career ruined!
 
Poor guy. It has to be said the way young girls dress these days is beyond me, and im only 27 but im horrified when my 13 yrs old neighbour goes out dress in really short skirts and all done up. She really does look 18 -19 and it worries me!!!
 
It not just these days though,girls have always been able to dress to look older.
I was able to get into pubs at 14 without question

Such a shame this guy has had his career and a good chunk of his life ruined by this-do men have to check a young womans passport now to make sure she is the age she claims?
 
If you are a man of 25, you would have some inkling that she was not really old enough, the fact that he said he asked her over again how old she was, sounds as though he suspected she was not actually 19. As the judge said, he was naive. He obviously chose to believe her, rather than actually ask for some proof of her age. what he wanted, by visiting that web site, was easy sex, which is what he got, unfortunately he also got a lot more.

I do agree the girl ought to have been charged, but with what ? she didn't actually break the law sadly. Her parents ought to have been charged with neglect.
 
Thing is how wold she prove if she is old enough?

My OH is 26, and he has no driving license and no passport..... so he can only prov ehis age via a paper birth certificate. He looks older than 26 and can pass for up to 35 (bad i know!).

When I was 14 my mates and I used her big sisters birth certificate to get an ID. She was 6 years older........so we had an ID for a 20 year old with the picture of a 14 year old on it.
 
There are many forms of ID and age, they are normally asked for when purchasing alcohol, tobacco etc in shops so it would have been easy to have ID if she was of age (or even if she wasn't!) dependant on the type, they are available from age 16.
 
Especially with the way women are portrayed in the media - i mean look at how made up the teens are on hollyoaks!

OH just told me that this exact thing happened to the brother of an ex of his...............funnily enough up in Lossie! Obviously there really is sod all for young people to do up there if your female - the guys have their bikes and guns etc.
 
i work in a pub and nightclub and although we have bouncers on the door (they are useless anything in a short skirt gets in!!!) i still id people and wont accept anything other than a passport or driving licence cos there are so many girls trying to do themselves up and drink in a pub and i think in that situation men just assume there over 18

On the other hand,the club was rented out for teen parties a fair bit before real opening at weekends and I told one of the mums to go get her parents if they wanted a drink

She was 5 years older then me but looked like one of the 14 year olds!

I do feel sorry for men,it is soo hard to guess a girl or womans age.
 
ye they are !!! ye i cant wait to leave it a 24 hour pub as well so shifts thata are 12-7am!!! but i finish uni in 4 weeks so no more...............i think it is hard 4 men these days but women are getting shall we say more "liberal"

my neighbour's daughter (leggy, blonde, very pretty), at 12 genuinely looked 18... and was allowed to dress like it too. i feel very sorry for the guys too... it's a bit of an attraction killer to say to someone you're trying to chat up "i don't trust you, show me some i.d." poor guy, i hope this doesn't become a life-wrecking situation for him.

Same with a friends 12year old sister. The amount of times she has been found outside some of the 'seedier' pubs of the area is shocking.

I also work in a pub but am lucky with the door staff they are generally very good but there is always one or two that manage to slip past when their backs are turned. Most of the time there is only a small give away to their true age. They can talk the talk and walk the walk. They know exactly what they are doing even if they don't always understand it.
 
and the guy is only 25, that is not hideously older if she were 16 and he 26 we would think nothing of it, and a lot of guys are very young for their age. although i think the lad was very naive it does happen and lets face it she was the one who lied about her age after all. It will almost certainly rui his life, i would think the he will be discharged from the RAF or whatever and then he will have a criminal record, dishonourable discharge and be on the sex offenders list which makes his punishment seem a little harsh to me when it wasnt entirely his fault.
 
As one of the few male members on the forum, I really do not feel sorry for the gentleman in questions. 14 years is very young and I find it incredibly hard to believe there were no physical signs or a maturity issue that raised a red flag. My fiance has younger cousins and there is no way you would mistake them - to me it sounds like a case of 'this is a good excuse'.
 
Hmmn, he's 25, old enough I think to have many similar stories and old enough to have been suspicous - so obviously the judge thought he didn't care that much whether she really was 16 or younger. I suspect thats why he has received a relatively harsh sentence. Different if he had been only 19 or so but 25 is quite a bit older to be hanging around with girls of that age and certainly old enough to know he should make damned sure. Its not as if its exactly unknown in that sort of environment for girls to lie about their age.

I know quite a few guys of 25 and theres no way they would get involved with a girl of 16 like that, never mind 14. They would be mortified and feel like sex pests! In fact two of them are actually from Forres!

At 14, me and my friend Jo would come home from school, dress up in office worker clothes and go to Liverpool St, go to the pubs there and talk about working in town, get bought lots of drinks from men in suits and go home on the bus plastered.

Its very easy to do.

Its not big or clever, and it is a minefield for guys. My daughter will be staying under lock and key until she's 21

It is probably fair to say she looked quite different in Court to how she does when out on the pull at all hours.
 
i should think that is entirely true mother hen, and I can think of a couple of guys age 25 or a bit older who I swear are so naive and young for their age, that you would think it was them who were underage were it not for the bum fluff. and no-one is saying he had relations with this girl against her will. I should think she had a pregnancy scare or something, the story came out and it was the parents who made the complaint ( as well they might).
 
It's in our local paper from yesterday. Says they met online and that they went drinking together in pubs round Elgin. You do wonder why pubs aren't more strict with ID. I get ID'd regularly buying wine in the supermarkets and I'm 30. When we were in the states EVERYONE got ID'd.
 
Just because young teenager nowadays look older than they does not mean that you cant tell there a lot younger than waht they say, at 25 he should have been able to tell the difference and not act on it no matter how much he wanted too, you cant charge her she in the eyes of the law did nothing wrong and he should have known better,
 
Not a chance in hell a 25 year old man would have taken me for a 14yo when I was 14 - I was NEVER EVER ID'ed in Spain, UK OR the States (my mother was, frequently LOL). I was mature conversationally for my age, and I faced gasps a lot when I revealed my real age to people.

I feel sorry for the guy, girls can be very, very scheming.

I ditto wheezy, when being chatted up by lads out in the town when I was 14 I would tell them my real age when asked for it, most of them laughed and thought I was joking, the rest couldnt believe it.

I told them my real age because I wasnt interested in pulling, just having a good drink and dance with my friend, who also looked older.

I can totally understand how easy it is to fool men.
