No point really. Just today I rode the old girl for 17th xmas in a row. This year we just pottered round the school for a bit due to my temperature and heavy cold. One year she was ill and I led her up alongside a wall and just stuck a leg over her back for a minute but every year she's done what she can on xmas day! I'm aiming for 20 years! She is 32 in spring though!

:) Great aim Spotsrock and hopefully achievable :)
I was very fortunate with my old fella, though once he hit 30, I left the saddle off,
and once I hit ?????? overweight, one of the grandchildren would take him to see the sea :D
(and he felt SO important having to look after them )
Wishing you and your horse several more happy Christmases together :)
Teg :D

Thanks. I'll be lost without her but she has cushings arthritis and pymetra so every day is one more than the vet expected 2 years ago. I will let her go as soon as she asks me but till then she's ruling the roost!

That is lovely that you've had so many years with her to be be able to do that - long may it continue. I was the same with my golden girlie - only stopped riding her a few months before she died. some of them have hearts of gold and want to keep on going for so long so keep up your good work at keeping her as healthy as you can :)

What an achievement Spotsrock :)

I have had Motor for 20 Christmas's this year (he is 30 now :)) and today we walk him out, as it has been tradition to take him out every Christmas day ( I am so envious seeing people out riding on Christmas day, that I have to go out with him! ;)).

Most years I ride him, but he is also suffers from Cushings and the horrid Laminitis caught up with him again last month, after shoeing and and today (after the increased dose of Pergolide has worked (fingers and everything crossed)) he was good enough to walk out and he dragged me up the drive ... an 18 minute round trip, with a photo call and he was as happy as larry, but I was happier :D:D

I hope you have more Christmases carrying out your tradition :)
