Andy had colic today

This morning Andy had a little bout of colic with no obvious cause he's all good now but very worried at the time. Last night when I went up for late night checks I found his stable door open and him wondering around the courtyard and I wonder whether the stress of this caused the colic but he didn't get poorly until about 9.30 this morning.

My only worry now is does this mean he's getting on a bit now? Is this a sign of his health deteriorating further? This is so unfair he's only 13 and shouldn't be like an older horse yet he's got years ahead.of him.

For those that don't know about 2 months ago Andy was diagnosed with liver problems, at first the outlook wasn't good as he wasn't reacting well to drugs but a bout 3 weeks ago we finally found medication that worked and he is responding well.

So sorry to hear that koko, glad he is ok now... Wonder if he ate something, or didn't eat enough and it gave him some trouble in the gut dept.

Didn't know about the liver probs... What's going on there?

Sorry to hear about the colic, always a worry! But I am glad Andy is responding to medication for his liver problem!

Could just have been the excitement of getting out?

My mare had liver problems but it fine now two years on.

I would be a little bit concerned the liver problems were connected...i might be inclined to call the vet and discuss it with them.

As for him getting out, could have have eaten something unsavoury?

D we rung the vet as like you I was concerned they were connected, he advised to not give his medication this evening and if he does it again or if he doesn't improve he'll come out.

I've been checking in all day today he's drunk a little bit but not enough to make ne think he's fully hydrated as this morning he was very dehydrated. Have added electrolytes to his water and apple juice so he's drunk a lot more and gave him a small but very wet feed and he does seem a lot better.

I'll go back and check on him in a couple of hours and again around midnight as my worst fear is him colicing late at night and being left for hours.

Woodykat was that at hartpury? Were you competing there?
