basically pickle has got anemia again (he had it along with a respiratary infection last august) basically an iron supplement usually sorts it out, but I think he may need to have this supplement all year round, as you cannot tell without counstant blood tests (apart from white gums) but this isnt always reliable.

Do you think it would be worth giving him an iron supplement regurlary?

I think it might be a good idea to find out why hes anaemic in the first place as its unusual for horses to be anaemic without a reason. I would ask advice from your vet re iron sups as long term use isnt very good for them. You could try using natural sources like nettles.Cut them then let them wilt and feed to your horse, theyre usually liked and cost nothing! See he has had lots of blood tests and they vary each time. Last time vet put him on the iron supplements, but it seems to just keep coming back

I thought about giving it to him every 3 months of something, bet is seeing him on routine visit on tuesday so will get a blood test done then.

They think loosing his coat could contribute towards his anemia!

Little comp mare at my yard is prone to aneamia. She is tested four times a year as a matter of routine. The cause for her was gastric ulcers, and changing her diet has radically improved the condition. She is also on a iron boosting suppliment all year round. (although I'm sorry, but I can't remember the name of it - however it's not Redcell, and is in powder form).

You do need to find out why your horse is prone to aneamia as just giving a suppliment may only mask the problem.

No thats why I am not just giving him the supplment and leaving it allthough he is back, allthough in a hypo form. He has gone from barely being able to cope with a little trot to

Uncatchable in the field & running away when being led (which is incredibly out of character)

Pickle has his blood tested every few months as well, his last one was only a month ago! I get them done regurlary to try and avoid the problem! If you could find me a name for that powder would be a great help
