Having just seen some comments on team GB facebook page , saying that they can't warm to this man after what he did and that alot of people would of liked someone else to of won burghley i'm curious as to why ?

Could be something to do with the fact that he 'allegedly' shagged WFP's ex-wife! I think because WFP is so popular that's why people can't take to AN (or WFP's ex-wife I suspect!)

I suspect it boils down to the affair he had with Wiggy.

At least they stayed together and it wasn't just a fling...and that they are all now happily married and have kids. Affairs can never be condoned, but sometimes things happen for a reason...and neither relationship can have been great/ right in the first place for the affair to have occured.

To me, Andrew is just in a league of his own. Watching him ride XC is just amazing. Whatever course, whatever horse, he just makes it look so easy. A true horseman.

I agree he's a great horseman - not sure I'd say in a league of his own though, there are riders that are every bit as good (if not better) than him :)

I'd agree. However, a lot of horses he rides are not easy and most others wouldn't get a tune out of them. He probably has his best ever string of horses now...some real true athletes and I suspect he is going to be winning a lot of 4 star events in the coming years.

It will be very interesting to see if he can win Kentucky in the spring as that would mean that both he and William would be going for the Grand Slam at Badminton.!

He's an incredible event rider and horseman. A very deserved win. What his private life has to do with reaping the rewards of doing his job well I don't know.
In life generally, statistics show the most affairs and infidelity occur in people's place of work.
No ones business except those it directly affects.

He's better than WFP and people don't like that. I do though!

Agree with Ribbons too, their private business and nothing to do with anyone else. After all, Alice has produced how many sprogs for him, can't say his present marriage isn't working (or lengthy) can they and it makes everyone carping look very petty.

For me it's nothing to with his private life but he always seems to whineing about something.
He however the most amazing horseman.

I admire him as a horseman . . . some of the time . . . but think he can be a moan-y crybaby and is alleged to have a terrible temper.

Close friends of mine are friends with Matt Ryan who doesn't have much nice to say about Andrew Nicholson - including how heavy with his hands he can be when going across country . . . and some of his training methods at home.

The man has incredible ability to keep out of a horse's way, though . . . lovely balance and seems to be quite an instinctive cross country rider.

I don't know the man . . . but a little like Oli Townend, the fact that few people close enough to the sport to actually know have anything nice to say about him speaks volumes.

If he beat everyone else fair and square, though, then he deserved the win. It isn't a popularity contest ;).

P.S. And last I checked WFP has held the World Number 1 spot longer than AN . . .

Apparently, rumours are rife in eventing circles that AN hasn't remained faithful to Wiggy either . . . he's a bit of a lad . . . apparently . . .

That wouldn't suprise me in the slightest..! I have always been quite suprised that they became a couple officially as I always thought it would just be a fling.

But like others have said, his private life is his business...however, I think it probably doesn't help his image in terms of answering OP's question.

How funny . . . no, it certainly wasn't . . . but given that I made the name PolarSkye up as GD's comp name it's cool that there's another one :). Was the grey very dapply or more fleabitten like GD?

private life should be just that, private. if he deserved the win (didn't watch it, was on brentor endurance ride helping), fair play & well done. wasn't impressed at his complaining at olympics, think he would have complained whatever they did.

He seems to be a bit of a hot-head and quite rude. I know a vet who was officiating at Wilton last year. He told her to "******* off" because she made a decision he didn't like. Can't ever imagine WFP doing such a thing...

For me it’s got nothing to do with AN and all to do with how much I was routing for Sinead. Stonking XC round, beautiful dressage, gutted for her to loose it on a silly pole. I watched her at the Leap and she rode it beautifully which so many didn’t that day and she came across so well in the interviews that evening. Hope to see more of her.

So nothing to do with AN, more that it was Sinead's to win and he won on her mistake, still deserved though and love Avebury, gorgeous horse. But in my heart I wanted Sinead to take it:o

No, nor me . . . WFP always comes across as a classy guy. Friend of mine worked for him for a little while - said he is incredibly down-to-earth and on the few occasions that I or my daughters have met him at events he has always been polite and gracious.

Dan Jocelyn is another one who is laid back and gracious . . . a couple of livery mates have been to his for clinics and spent the weekend and I was with them when they were chatting to him and his wife at Wellington the other weekend . . . lovely family.

Can't be doing with arrogance, unruly temperament and rudeness.

Found them . . . mare Polar Sky . . . stable name Mary . . . very pretty little mare, only 15.2 and, yes, they have affiliated. Most certainly NOT the GreyDonkey (who is 16.2) and Emily Clark is probably considerably smaller than me too ;).

Here's Emily's webpage . . . http://www.emilyclark-eventing.com/horses.html
