Yes I saw it and I have never heard of them either. Do you think they attract people by having really attractive prices at the beginning and no one reads the small print? It was quite shocking the dog that was being operated on over night and it was her last day before renewal so they wouldn't reinsure for what was being done ( the dog had been in a car accident) so the owner had to pay the rest of the operation and aftercare.
Having said all that, I have had dogs for over 40 years, own 4 at the moment and have never taken out any insurance. The only thing we have had in that time was one lurcher with a broken leg that had to be in plaster for 6weeks. Even that wasnt particularly expensive in those days.
I realise I have been lucky but I think you can save money by putting some savings aside incase anything expensive happens.
Haven't watched Watchdog yet but they are notorious in the veterinary world and one of only two we won't claim from directly (the other being E&L).
I had one of mine insured with them and to be fair they paid up a lot over the years but the premiums increased rapidly and when they refused to pay for a fractured tooth due to nitpicking I switched to Petplan, accepting a couple of exclusions.
one of the people featured had her premiums hiked from £11 something I think to over £500 a month. someone was paying £5 odd a month, seems incredibly cheap to me
The advert they run on the tv is quite "cute" I would think that attracts a lot of people. I have to say Ive read through the small print on quite a few dog policies offered by some of the supermarkets et al and they all seem to have more terms and conditions than good old Petplan. I appreciate that PP is more expensive but I really do think in this instance it is a case of getting what you pay for!
