Some of you may remember I did a sponsored ride yesterday. It was 15 miles long and took us just over 4 hours (the first half was very boring as the people who tagged along with us wouldn't go faster than trot!!!).
By 2 hours in my ankles were getting really painful, and by the end they were realllly bad. I rode in Sprenger stirrups for the first time and they helped with my position, but not so much the pain.
I got up this morning and I couldn't walk without holding onto the wall and couldn't go up and down stairs without holding the banister and the wall. My ankles and knees just couldn't take my weight (I'm just over 9 stone). They are still really sore now, 24 hours after finishing the ride.
I'm thinking about going to the GP and asking for a referal for physio, as I've had this in the past for my knees and it's really helped. I also think I've got some tendon/ligament damage in my left ankle that needs sorting out.
Does anyone know of anything I can do to ease the pain? A hot bath did absolutly nothing, the Sprenger stirrups worked to a degree, and I'm off riding in half an hour for my lesson, should I just do flatwork and give jumping a miss?
Any advice appreciated!
