My pony is fairly messy in his stable but my biggest problem is he is very very wet! I changed him from straw to shavings and is a million times better, but would it be beneficial to put the bedding that you put water with (don't know what it's called a friend has been using it) underneath and just take up once a week? So the shavings would stay cleaner as just for banks and top layer and would have more of a solid base as only taking out wet once a week? Any suggestions please, just trying to save money with costly bloody wedding approaching very quickly!!!

I'm quite sold on Flaxcore, it's very absorbent - if you leave the wet it forms a semi-dry compact layer underneath and stays dry on top. You can then scrape the dry off, lift the wet with a fork, replace the dry. That said, if you have a stable trasher they kick it all around and mix everything up, so it doesn't work so well.

Why not do a semi deep shavings bed. I'm doing that with my mare now and have gone from 3 bales of shavings a week to 3 in two weeks.

As another poster said, if your horse is in a lot and trashes its stable then I have found only a really deep shavings or pellets type bed helps (unless you go twice a day and are able to muck out in the morning and leave a day bed.

It's tough as every horse is different. My 2 are equally clean but........ 1 trashes his bed so it still tajes ages to muck out and the other doesn't.
