we have Fiddler in a (dressage legal) myler for dressage now which is fantastic, and now i want all your expert opinions on the following bits for sjing and xc with him (he is in a single jointed cheltenham gag atm and has been for the past 3yrs - but he really needs a change now:

and

and

http://www.shop4bits.com/item--18mm-Tranz-Angled-Lozenge-Universal--8024u.html

we are considering all of the above for Fiddler - just wondering whether anyone has had any first hand experience with any of them and if so what action do they give and how severe are they (do understand it depends on the persons hands) but i need a rough idea

Hey hon, the NS jumper is very similar to a tom thumb gag (think you mentioned you had one before?) so may be worth trying tat. The other two are Neue schule bits, so worth ringing the Neue schule people cos they may be able to help? Am considering the waterford universal myslef at the mo.....

We make our own up to 6" and a cheaper £20 (and do a universal for this price!!)

The universal is good if you want to bring the head down

The jumper / tom thumb is better for a horse with a normal / low head position, as despite the way it looks you can lift the head. I actually have both, and horse prefers the tom thumb. I had to get a NS jumper, as couldn't find a 6" tom thumb, hence we now make one!!

although the tom thumb is def different to the NS jumper as the tom thumb is loose ring and the NS jumper is fixed - how much difference does that make??

As above not a lot - the only thing you might find is that the NS jumper can feel a little 'dead' in the mouth and it lies nice and still. The tom thumb adds a little movement, which is handy if your horse 'locks' onto the bit.

There is very little between the bits in all other respects

think after today i am happy in the normal cheltenham gag and we may possibly put less in his mouth poss. a hanging cheek or waterford hanging cheek or the main ring of a three ring - not sure yet but its a step in a different direction
