Just checking before I start sweet talking for a lorry.... A 1.6 ford escort couldn't pull the lightest wieght of trailers with a 16.1hh (prospect of 16.3hh

I wouldent of thought that the escort would have enough kerb weight to pull the trailer and horse.You will probably find the trailer towing the car!!.

not sure how helpful this is but I have a 2.0 litre engine car and I thought it would tow ok. I looked up the towing weight in the car manual and it wasn't! So I wouldn't think yours would either...

I think my towing weight was 1600kg...

If it helps, my Nissan Primera 2 litre TD is fine with the baby Bateson trailer - 675k and my 14.2 cob - 390k. I won't tow with anything other than something of his size and only one small horse even though the trailer is designed for two 14.2s or a mare and foal without the partition.

I have 235k in reserve for my towing capacity.

I think a 1.6 engine will be too small and the weight of your car not enough.
