Had another farrier out today. Did Mum first and left the Wild Boy until last, you can guess why with the name! Mum is normally so placid, never a bother to work with. Today, she was a different horse. We got her first foot done and then he went on to her other front foot and she kept pulling it away, over and over again. Could see farrier was getting annoyed so in the end we left her and did the Wild Boy. Considering this was his second farrier visit he was a wee superstar! So proud of him today :). Got him done and he went back to Mum. She was still having none of it. In the end I was told 'work with her or get another farrier' to which my boyfriend was appalled at. She also got a good pole in the side with his trimming things twice. She is not a bolshy horse at all. She is the most perfect mare who never puts a foot wrong, apart from when a bike goes past! The last farrier visit we had we had someone non horsey holding her, thats how relaxed she is! Today it took me and my boyfriends Dad to try and hold her today!

Do you think horses take a dislike to someone from the start? We think this might be what it is. Now worried that this had not done her any good for a next visit. Had emailed a bunch of farriers last week but got this one before others had replied. Had an email from a guy who can come out Thurs, going to have to fill him in on her obviously before he comes out but I'm wondering whether it might be worth having a twitch around incase she is just as bad? Just looking for other peoples thoughts and advice :).

When putting her back out to the field, it was noticed in one of her eyes that there was what looked like a dark kind of spot over the middle of her eye, boyfriend described it as if her pupil had burst. Didn't get a pic to put up unfortunately as I don't think she was in the mood after her experience...just if anyone had any ideas or if its nothing?

Chocs and wine for reading, & sorry for blabbing on!

Can't abide farriers hitting horses. Sorry, but I would have told him to sod off. Doesn't sound normal for her then... is she comfortable in each of her feet? Is she standing correctly?

Horses def sense things for sure... wouldn't like to comment on eye - perhaps get the vet to to take a quick look. There are 'bobbles' and that is quite normal.

Telling him to sod off if far to polite, years ago my horse was hit, needless to say never had him back again, thought that was old school and did not happen these days stupid me,I do know of one that will hit the horse with what ever is in his hand at the time, can not understand why people use him. I have had the same one now for nearly 30 years and in all that time never has he raised his voice or his hand to any of my horses.
Sorry but I would not put up with that .

Yes horses do take a dislike to certain people/farriers. My mare stands like a rock for any and all farriers..... Bar one (the one I currently use as the 'best') but with the current farrier she is awful, it takes a full bag of treats to keep her occupied and you cant tie her, just hold incase she launches backwards. She was an angel for his dad but she just doesnt like this one!!
