I'm starting to dread going up to the new yard, every day there a new problem. It's getting very tiring. The horses break out pretty much every day as the fencing is completely rubbish and today was even more fun! I was sorting out my injured horse on the yard today when I heard someone screaming in the distance and then my name being shouted so I abandoned my horse and ran down the fields as I'd been told there was a woman and her dogs being attacked by the horses.

The woman was a jogger coming through the fields on the footpath, and the horses had started charging at her and the two dogs. I ran over yawling into a sea of horses (none of which were mine) with the two dogs running about narrowly avoiding flying hooves got the horses to back off and walked with her out the field. The woman was understandably terrified and when I tackled her about the dogs she said they had been on leads but she'd let them go when the horses came (which seemed a bit odd) and when she got out the horses field and into the next one she let them off to run free but I'll giver her the benefit of the doubt...........................

The problem has actually come about because of the yard owner (not one iota horsey) lets his dog into the fields to chase the horses and whip them up into a frenzy

so the horses now see all dogs as a direct threat.

If you've got this far, well done, but my questions are;

Where do we stand on the issue of the owners dog running in the fields? As he owns it do we have any rights to stop it happening?

Is there any rules about how people should cross footpaths with livestock on? as I'm sure this wouldn't have been half so bad if the woman had been walking

OMG did you not see the news last night where a man had been badly attacked by some cows? Well the advise was if you have a dog on a lead when on a public footpath which has livestock on it, if the livestock become threatening let the dogs off their leads as they have four legs and can outrun normally, you only have two so try and escape out of the field.

Not sure about the YO but if he let his dogs wind my horse up he'd be paying any vet bills as well as getting a thump. Why don't you move your horse away from such a fool of a YO??

Personally would get all liveries together and go see him regarding letting his dogs in field.Lucky there hasn't been an injury yet.If you get no joy I would leave , all of you!!.TBH sounds a nightmare would probably look elsewhere regardless.
Sorry can't say about rights or wrongs of going through field with horses in it tho personally I wouldn't and think people take the risk themselves if choose to go into a field with animals in it.

I would move yards it sounds a nightmare.
He does have a duty of care and you might be able to sue him but on the other hand do you want to wait for the inevitable serious injury or even fatality of a horse or a dog or a person?

I am seriously looking as my horse already had a bad injury from afore mentioned rubbish fencing, my problems are that both horses are quite "special needs" one really needs to live out all year and the other needs lots and lots of decent grazing as despite trying many different feeding options it seems only nice grass really has the desired effect.

It's really getting me down, I can't sleep at night for worrying. I'd sell up but no-one would have them!!

Wimbles no idea what area you are in but dogs chasing horses will make them even more special cases (frightened nutcases)?? Is that really what you want? I'm sure if you just put what area like Nottingham, Kent, Yorkshire or something someone on here will know a good yard. Good luck

What! When was that???? Was it the mares field???

When does the YO let his dogs into the fields???? I haven't seen it, but if that is the case there is going to be some serious sh!t flying!!!!

Call me! Have pm'd my number in case you don't have it.
