Only realised my little lad had gone deaf because he hasnt reacted at all to the fireworks this year, and fell in that he hadn't been barking at the posties arrival !
Its not really a problem, bit of a plus when the fireworks are on, but its made me a bit sad as its another sign of his advancing years. Luckily I have kept the bells that the deaf Gordon used to wear :D

Oh dear. I think it is harder with a dog that goes deaf than one who is born deaf -I've had both. The dog born deaf used to "check in" and watch for commands whereas the one who went deaf due to old age just bumbled along in her own little world, still expecting to hear me call her - it certainly kept me on my toes.

It sounds as if you have plenty of experience to help your old lad.

Does he know hand signals? My old boy has been deaf for a while now but has always checked in and learnt hand signals early on, just needs a touch on his head to walk on as he can't hear me telling him.
