What are people thinking, this was the second year they had bred them too!!!
frown.gif

In the last couple of weeks our local paper has had Pugadoos (pug x poodle) GSD x Malamute and Inuit x utonagan, I suppose at least the last 2 didn't have nauseating made up names but appeared to be deliberate crosses.

Sorry, I think deliberately breeding dogs with high working/prey drives (to produce an animal, which lets face it, looks pretty amazing) and then selling them to novicey people (or even experienced people - that kind of mix can be a lot for anyone to cope with) is just outrageous.
I am talking about the crossing of GSDs with husky types but the Springer/Staff mix could equally apply.

Oh and I just BET the GSD half of the union was hip and elbow scored...NOT.

Oh dear, I do think she's really cute looking but I wouldn't have stuck two such random breeds together on purpose - such different sizes apart from anything else!

It's one thing when little accidents happen but quite another to do it deliberately, presumably to make a quick buck?

Why don't people just hand them in for goodness sake!!!!

Mitzi is gorgeous by the way and if Calas rescue was full of Mitzis it would be empty if you see what I mean. She gives me the urge to get out my grooming brushes and scissors.

Not too bad a cross as they go, I can never understand people paying 'pedigree' prices for a crossbreed though.

I agree with that. The prices are silly. However, I must admit, I'm not against cross breed altogether. I was perfectly keen/open to a crossbreed when puppy shopping last year. Mine wasn't give a silly label, she was just a crossbreed, and I was more than happy to pay £200 for her
smile.gif

Sure, if I was looking now I would look for something different; jeez, I'd love a GSP
grin.gif
, but back then I was looking for something smaller as I already had a large dog...
smile.gif

I don't think I would pay as much as £200 for a crossbreed to be honest
crazy.gif
(Don't mean to offend you Puppy, you know I love little Popple
grin.gif
)

My youngest lab bitch cost £250 and has fab working strain in her breeding and parents had appropriate health checks etc We were very lucky to get her at that price though as she is easily worth more.

Beastie cost £250. That was 8 years ago though, when mini schnauzers were just gaining in popularity, you'd now struggle to get one for less than £400 as they are such a popular breed.

No offence taken at all
smile.gif

Personally I'd never buy a lab
wink.gif
but I still adore yours
smile.gif
smile.gif
As with horses, it's each to their own
smile.gif

Over here, a JRT, from a good home, will often cost you more than that (what I paid for Pops), and you wouldn't get an even half decent Lab/Miniature Schnauzer for less than about £600
blush.gif

As I said, I'd love a GSP, and yet one of them would cost me even more than that...

When I bought Pops, it wasn't about the money though, it was about finding the dog that suited me. I was stuck for choosing a specific breed, as with already having Puppy back then, I felt I needed something smaller than most of my usual taste in dogs. (although we have LOTS of open space for walking, we do live in the town and also have a cat). But yet I wanted something very active and athletic. As it was, whilst browsing, I saw Pops, who is unbelievably like my cousins dog (also 1/2 patterdale) and who is astoundingly similar looking and lovable
smile.gif
And I've had a fair amount of previous experience with spaniels. Hence I had to go see...

As you know, I am thrilled with her.
smile.gif
And as I know you'd agree, that factor is priceless
smile.gif

Sure, I would love another medium/larger dog, but I wouldn't swap little Ninny for the world!! And to me she is priceless!
laugh.gif

My main issue is with the stupid names, and the title "designer breeds". I have no problem if people want to have cross breeds and I think Popple is gorgeous. Did wince a bit at the price but as you say it is the dog that suits you that is important. In some places pedigree dogs do cost stupid money, round here it is not too bad generally, £500 seems tobe the average for a well bred, well reared pedigree pup.

Ets Last night our paper had 2 more gems, Pointadors, and Weimadors. The latter were £450 each
shocked.gif

on a more serious vein, the bitch that was causing mayhem in our village is part wolf. no i'm not kidding. i thought she was GSDx husky, but turns out there is wolf in the mix as well. Police were not too pleased with owner or about visiting house with part wolf, so things have been a lot calmer recently.
