So we are now four weeks into our barefoot trial, we are sound on smooth, in boots and are walk, trot and cantering on hacks
.
We have been trying to get her out more after the physio came as she wants her moving more! As she's doing so well we went for a hack where we could have a bit of a canter yesterday. We started in trot and when all felt well I asked her to canter and the little toad fly bucked
. Now as this horse has never done this ever, I immediately pulled up said to mum she must be lame, sore, boot fallen off, etc, etc. Walk she looked fine, trotted she looked fine and then tried to bog off with me, I really think she was so excited to actually be allowed to really go she couldn't help herself
.
I then was the worst hacking partner for my mum as Doodle was a loon and I found it funny
, mum even refused to come with me for the last canter
, Topaz isn't use to being the slowest
.
Picture of the old loon:
She is still quite footy over stones, and even still a bit with her boots, so I'm going to try the pads I bought for her and see how she goes. Is it a case of just keeping her moving and comfortable? To be honest I'm happy to keep her in boots for her ridden work, but not sure if I should be doing more without them?
