Another ear infection :(

Tyson has what looks like the same ear infection, back again in the same ear.
I noticed him scratching last week & should have taken him to the vets but as I couldn't see anything I didn't :(

Ear is weeping with visible scabs inside. First time this happened I took him to the emergencey vets (it was a Sunday :rolleyes: ) & all the emergencey vet did was clean it out and tell me to take him to my vet the next day for an investigation as he suspected foreign body.
My vets gave him tablets for a week & then drops for 2 weeks and it cleared up.
I'm reluctant to take him to the emergencey vet again today as I seemed to pay for nothing last time. Is there anything I can buy over the shelf to clean the ear until I can take him to the vet tomorrow - or should I just bite the bullet and take him to the emergencey vet?

I would wait till tomorrow, have you given you a any ideas what is wrong, maybe further investigation is needed if it's reoccuring, an anaesthetic and a good rummage around down there:p
My whippet used to get them and each time she was knocked out (lots of foreign matter) hair and wax had always gathered and sometimes her drum would be burst.
 
I was going to suggest anaesthetic and proper investigation too. We had a rescue shepherd who had constant problems with her ears, scratching which of course caused sores which got infected etc etc. Vets in the end knocked her out and discovered that some time in the past her ear drum had been perforated and that was the source of the problem. Vet was able to give it a really good clean out, and I think removed some scar tissue and she never had a problem after that although we did always keep her ears very clean and check them regularly.
 
Yep it definately sounds like it cant hurt. I've given it a clean around the outside with some stuff from pets at home, so I'll just keep his cone on till we get to the vets tomorrow & see what they say.
 
Epiotic is great stuff. Oh and if the vet suggests removing the ear canal as a last resort - DON'T! My friend's dog has done this, he still scratches till he bleeds and needs a cone at all times when not supervised :(
Also look at his protein levels, this was a trigger for ear infections in my own dog (high, from a crap source).
