How awful. I wonder if something went wrong with an engine....seeing as it says fire near the tail. All 3 engines in those aircraft are at the tail. RIP.

The Iranians tried to blame the Americans for their blockade on technologies that could be used for nuclear purposes effecting the maintenance. The aircraft is a Tupolev (Russian), so not effected by the sanctions...
Russian engines have a fraction of the lives between overhauls of western engines as they do not have access to the proprietary turbine coating technologies of RR, P&W and GE.

Very sad, but these things happen. Im sure they'll work out what happened with this one eventually. Still safer than travelling by car.
