Hi all - just trying to use some of all your knowledge as to what you think is a good feed for an ex racer over this winter as my tack shop seems to tell me that cool mix is suitable for everything :/
So, my boy Rango is a 6yo ex racer, came out of racing this year, he's running up a bit light at the moment and can be quite lazy when ridden - currently just on Alfa a oil and a handful of cool mix (no good I know but just want something in his belly this week with the rain)
I want him to hold a bit of weight and some sparkle, but without blowing his brains? He's currently in light work 4 times a week

Thank you, dark chocolate cookies and hot choc on offer!

oh you have an endless choice available. i would start with ad lib hay and good grass, and in the bucket something like alpha a and nuts and sugar beet as a base start. calm and condition is very good. fast fibre is very good if running up a little light. straight oats or oil or rice bran for some energy. or a competion mix for more oomph. you might have to play around with it for a few weeks to find the happy medium. speak to a few nutritionists from various feed companyies and go from there! remember to keep the base level feed high in long stem fibre and add from there. blur chip is good for condition too. dont ad all at once, and introduce slowly and allow 2 to 3 weeks on each to find what suits your horse!
