You're all going to get very bored of these...

So I rode Scoob today, and tried to work on getting him to pay attention to the reins a bit more - he's really responsive to legs and to my seat, but he often completely ignores the reins! So lots of steering and half-halts and stuff. He was being a very good boy and trying his hardest, and he seemed so eager to do something a bit more exciting (he kept jogging off into trot, but that was mostly my fault because I have a bad habit of gripping with my lower legs which he obviously takes to mean "go faster"!) so I decided to let him have a little canter.

Bearing in mind, on our safe ploddy riding school horses I still haven't got the guts to canter off the lunge (I still have to keep one hand on the saddle!), but today on my rather lively little coblet, I had a nice canter on both reins and kept my balance perfectly and felt like the most confident rider in the world!

He got so excited when he realised I was asking him to go faster that he put in a little buck, and I've never sat a buck before but I barely noticed it until the RI told me afterwards! He really loves to go fast, but bless his little heart, he's so unfit I'm scared I'll give him a heart attack! So we only cantered three times for one side of the school each time, because he was puffing like a hippo.

I can't believe how much my confidence is improving - I'm actually starting to feel like I might one day be a Good Rider!

I can't wait to start taking him out on hacks, and going to shows... it's all so exciting.
