ok, I ordered a load of big bales to last the winter, only have the 2 horses but use a bale a week on average and it lasts fine if i wrap it up well, but my problem is if it Keeps getting warmer I dont think it will keep so long, and I will end up wasting loads.

I still have 4 big bales left, will they keep till next winter if I go onto little bales now? if they wont then I will just have to use them and chuck what goes off, thanks for your help in advance

At a push it may last til next winter but it's a risk and you could end up chucking it all away, so I'd use what you can now and throw what goes off, at least that way to get to use some of it.

I use big bale haylage and open it up as much as possible to let the air get to it - it dries out a bit and doesn't warm up but it might not work if the bale is very wet. I currently open a bale a fortnight and it seems to last well.
