Does anyone have any tips on getting hi viz yellow gear sparkling again?

yes they are all different so read the wash/care lable inside if you can't find one you are usually safe enough to hand wash it using a soap based liquid or flakes

Ditto this. But probably best not to bung hi viz stuff into the machine on a hot cycle with biological detergents! - will fade them.

I soak mine in soda crystals disolved in hand hot water, then drip dry
