One of David O'Connor's horses TIGGER TOO died on xc at Jersey Fresh CCI 3* today. Rider Lauren Kieffer was uninjured.
RIP Tigger... And thoughts with the O' Connors and rider.

According to USEF new safety proposals, are they going to suspend the rider ? It certainly is too late for the horse...

Neither the Jersey fresh nor USEA give any explanations. Just saying that a statement will be released once the investigation of the accident is completed...

(Off the subject, but AT is leading in the 3* after XC)

Looking at the results, Tigger Too was eliminated so must have been a horse fall, rather than say being retired from going hopping lame or something

Poor Horse

I think the Americans need to win a medal at the Olympics - then eventing will be forgiven everything.

I just read about the new proposed rules - how will that work. Will it only affect American Riders in US competions, could that Amercian then come to the UK to compete whilst suspended. And I can't see how they could suspend a European.

I find it very strange that USA seems to be getting all the fatalities, are they not as informed as the Europeans where the safety aspects are concerned?

Or is it just freak accidents like we seemed to get in 200? whatever that horrible year was that we lost Peta Beckett, Polly Philips, David Foster, Beaufort Miss Dior's rider ( can't think of his name!) Simon Long (may have been a seperate year?) This was the worst ever year and it made me take a long hard look at what I was doing

So sorry for the O'connors, they must be distraught.

The fall was at fence the Lighthouse fence (#28 I think). Apparantely horse slowed right down to a trot going up the hill to the fence and was urged on, left a leg and fell head then neck first. Fortunately rider was dropped away from main body but had her leg pinned under the horse until it was sedated and could be rolled off her. No definate news yet on rider injury, or if the horse died of his injuries, or PTS because of.

The official statement:
Updated 5/11/08

Preliminary necropsy findings on the horse "Tigger Too," a seventeen-year-old gelding showed that he passed away from an acute abdominal aortic rupture. Final necropsy results are pending.
