hi all, long time lurker after someone to talk some sense into me and stop me spending a lot of money!?

I’m a reasonably experienced rider and have had horses pretty much my entire life, including a few 4/5yos. Lean towards a dressage and hacking preference but would like to do some low level jumping with the right confidence giver. I own a beautiful wb gelding who is meant to be my dressage horse but for the last 5 yrs has mostly been a walking vets bill that at best can now do light hacking. He’ll always be with me but I’m starting to want something I can get going with again and just have some fun on. Generally looking for something 16.1 plus, with capability of doing a decent test (happy to start at bottom and take up the levels). I’m not the slimmest of riders so a good mw and no pure tbs etc. must hack by itself and don’t mind something with a bit of a spook But not sharp/strong/buzzy.

I haven’t been looking seriously yet, but on nosing through horsemart ads off the back off HorseKaren‘s thread, I stumbled across this guy and he has completely caught my eye and is the first ad to make me excited about possibly getting a new horse (rather than just sad that my boy can’t do what I need anymore). He’s a good 3hr drive from me and probably more than I would really want to pay, but he’s got a lovely kind face and there is just something about him that just speaks to me.

can I ask for some expert h&h eyes please? Before I do something silly involving a lot of money!!!

anyone know the dealer? What would you to know about the horse if I did ring up?

feel free to PM if preferred

Early morning G&Ts in thanks for your help ?x

Hi dreams579- yes, he looks a lovely horse.GS Equine seem to have a good reputation. I. Also looking for a new horse and they are on my list of places to look. If you look on the FB Dodgy Dealers page I think there are positive comments- if not there, just google them and comments will come up. I’d ask about what he has done, breeding, if you’re interested, how he is to hack out etc. Depending on what your priorities are. Also for any additional videos of what you want to see eg trotting up, lunging etc. I’d say 3 hours is worthwhile for the right horse!

NOthing to add except reputable dealer from what I’ve heard, had a friend that tried one with him, she didn’t end up buying (no fault of the seller/horse), he took the horse to training centre for her to try over some xc fences. Think my friend paid the hire fee for the centre.

That’s really useful feedback, thank you x

You are absolutely right, 3 hrs is definitely worth it for the right horse who I’d have for 10+ yrs etc but if I can reduce the risk of a long drive for no reason to start with, that’s probably sensible. Was definitely thinking of asking for a better confo photo to see his hocks better and a trot up/ schooling video might be useful

thanks for your reply x

I like window shopping here every now and again. No idea about the dealer or their rep. He seems to have some nice ones in and the more experienced ones are priced accordingly. This one I suspect will grow and fill out a fair bit but looks a nice enough type. Suspect flatwork will need some work as, with most pro sellers, they can make them look far better, as I learned (but this was expected) when I bought mine at 5!

Thanks Bernster! Yes agree re the flat work! I’m not too fussed if he’s a bit on the green side if the right qualities are there as a base point

I am another looking and really liked this lad but he will end up too big for me.
If you are on facebook they added a few videos of him, and also had an ad with videos on horsequest.

Any of the h&h confo experts about? I’d love some thoughts as I don’t always have the best eye but can’t see anything major jumping out provided those hocks just look slightly weird due to photo angle

thanks all x

The first thing I saw was the hocks but I cant decide if its the weird angle or not. If they are genuinely like that, and your preference is dressage then don't bother even viewing.

Thanks Leo! Yes agree re hocks, I think it’s just the angle but think it will be worth asking for another photo. Been there and done suspensories too many times to risk that one!

My eyes are watering at the price given what we’ve been looking at on the horse shopping threads this week! I’m another who doesn’t like his hocks-cow hocked, possibly an old injury?

Ooh good detective work pink pug! You are right! On their fb last November so he’s been over for 6 months-ish possibly
Jazz horses are very local to me and have some lovely horses I see them out and about at shows and hunts. They seem to give them a great start to their education
