I'm sure you're all sick of me doing a report every time I get on a different horse. It used to be normal for me to get on something different every single week, but since I fell in love with Ned, I've only ridden him for the past few years.

Anyway! This week, it was a 16hh-something ISH called Toby!
He's the only horse who genuinely scares me on the ground, but I put on my big girl pants and caught him from the field. He was better than expected! He just pulled a face, rather than properly threatened me. Thank goodness!

Pleasure to tack up and get on.
In walk and trot he is amaaazing! Such beautiful, long strides.
It was really weird being on such a big horse, I'm so used to 15.1hh Ned or smaller.

Then we cantered.
I nearly fell off!! It felt like I was doing a 2ft grid all the way!! He wasn't that strong, but you could feel how much power he had pent up in his hind legs. No wonder he can go so fast!

I don't think I'll be getting on him again, he's a nice horse, but really not my type!

Haha! Well done on handling him - I'm a massive wuss with face pullers.

I TOTALLY know what you mean with the big'uns, being a short arse at a riding school and riding in adult lessons means I'm always on the little ponies (and I mean really little at times - think 12hh!) I love them!

Anyway, this Sunday the pony I was riding went a little lame, so my instructor put me on a different horse for the last 10mins. A 16.2hh thoroughbred who I've never ridden before - and my god he had long strides!!!! We were jumping and I got hideously left behind a couple of times because I was expecting at least one more stride before take off!

So congrats! I love riding new horses :D

I know the feeling!

I've ridden my friends ISH and his canter is like that. It feels like he's almost bucking, his back end is so boingy but he doesn't its just power.

I'm so used to cobs, it feels so weird! I prefer my simple little coblet.

He's got a naaasty face when he gets grumpy! I've never seen such a moody looking horse before.
I don't know how his owner riders him - Toby is extremely high whithered and his saddle is so uncomfortable for the rider. His owner is a man and as a woman, even I found it crushed 'things'!! Haha!

Once he's in, he's a completely different horse. You can give him cuddles and he actually looks happy!
A very very nice horse to ride in general, I felt safe and he didn't spook once ^^ but that canter!! Haha! My legs are killing me!

As a side note - just seen a video of Kauto Star's fall from a little while ago :O how he didn't die, I don't know!

I rode a different horse today too - haven't ridden anything but MM for probably a year, and before that it was my other horse that I no longer have.

My friend has been offering to let me ride his ex-racehorse for ages and I finally got round to it today (I used to work with ex-racers so not a completely new concept) and my god I'd forgotten how narrow they are, felt like my legs could meet under his belly.

He went very nicely and my friend rode MM so a nice change for him too :)

I rode a new horse today and he was wonderful. I even did a canter round the school with him and he really looked after me ... normal for some but i havent cantered a horse for 20 years ... i think im in love with this horse :o

(I just got back into riding a few months ago)

The second i got on him i felt nothing but confident and safe ... it was so surreal :p :D

I rode a different horse aswell today! I have been riding 13.2/13.3 hh mare called Gemma for the past 18 months; although she hates and gets bored riding in the school over winter and would much prefer hacking around 100 acres.
So today i rode a gelding called Prince (and considering i have only ever rode mares; big change), He's around the 12.3/13 hh mark and alot thinner. His trot and canter was rather bouncy; nearly ended up on the floor :p.

It was an experience, i'll say that

It must have been the day for it, I rode my OH's ISH horse Amber today, not ridden her a few weeks but as OH was taking my mare Chloe show jumping today I thought why not?

Ambers lovely and although very willing for a 5 year old but I must admit I forget how babyish she can be. Oh and after riding Chloe whose 15.1hh, riding Amber who is 16.3hh and growing was like riding a Sherman Tank! ;)

Ooooo Ooooo Me too!!! ***jumps up waving hand***!!

I rode a new pony today (only my 3rd "proper" lesson, but had "Steady Eddie" last two lessons and had a more forward going pony today!) and it was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

I've not reached the cantering point yet but I had to make an effort NOT to accidentally ask for canter today! Pony was smaller but a fast little stream train of a pony, and well, I fell in love :o

I want him! :D

The other day I rode my friend horse and it was raining really hard so the noise on the roof was awful. We had a few rather large spooks, but the worst thing was that he's 16.2hh and I'm only 5"1… he has such a wide rib cage too I felt like I was just perched on top instead of actually riding.
I can now honestly say he was far too large for me and I couldn't ride him often :o
