(Another) Livery dilemma

hi, I'm a long time forum member with a new account as I don't like drama and I want to be discrete (it seems unlikely what I post here will effect real life but you never know!). I'm also purposefully being a little vague!

Circumstances at the livery yard where I am have changed unexpectedly and suddenly and in a months time it will be grass livery only, possibly with a field shelter.

I don't know quite what to do. I am already on two waiting lists for other yards but there is no way of knowing when a space might become available. So do I try and find another livery yard with current vacancies and take something even if it isn't ideal or do I stick it out where I am even though winter is on it's way and things may be awkward or do I ask where I used to be which is 24/7 grass livery (with less ideal facilities but not on mud and I left on good terms) and see if they can squeeze me in or ask around and see if I can find anyone that would put us up although I can't guarantee how long we would be around?? I don't really want to yard hop.

Why would you go back to old yard if it’s no better than what you are being offered at current yard?

Do you know of any yards with space? I think you need to get the options together before making a decision on whether an interim yard would be better or not.

I think if you are already on two wait lists and the yard change is being applied inconsistently, I'd be inclined to move back to your previous yard if you know the YO and will be happy there until something else comes up.

Your current yard sounds there might be drama if sudden rule changes. For me, drama + inconsistently managed + potentially v. muddy grass livery in the middle of a miserable winter would be enough to make me leave.

Do you want a stable? If you do I'd try to hang on for one of the other livery yards to avoid moving twice. If you're not bothered I'd go back to the old yard.

@Annagain I'm not overly bothered. My horse always lived out 24/7 until the last 6 months (although not ridden then but is now). The old yard is on very sandy soil so it never gets very muddy which makes life a lot easier.

Why did you leave? Is it likely to be an issue again?

@Annagain my horse was at the very start of being ridden and the school was a bit of a distance from the fields and there wasn't much hacking company (but fantastic hacking) so I wanted more structure/routine and more people to ride with. The more people to ride with hasn't really worked out anyway and I'm hoping that riding from the field should be more doable now.

I have given the old yard manager a ring and they're going to speak to the yard owner and see if there is anything they can do. They said there isn't anything at the moment but there is the possibility of something temporary being arranged. 🤞

Will grass livery at your current place definitely not work? Are you being moved to grass livery to force you to leave as you say others aren't affected?

It sounds like the reasons you left the old yard don't apply anymore so probably a better option than going somewhere you don't know.

If you are in the Warwickshire area (and I don't know if you are or not) I can supply you with a list of livery yards that I put together some years ago when I was looking for somewhere to move to.
I am more than happy to email it to you if it will help. It doesn't have my yard on it but that's because we already have a wait list.

@Birker2020 Thanks very much for the offer, no-where near there though! :)
Aw not to worry! There's about 15 yards on there - its come in handy for a few on the forum. Its way out of date, I made it in around 2016 but I think most of the phone numbers still work!

I hope you find somewhere, horses adjust very fast so even if you move in the interim, I'm sure your horse won't mind. Goodluck

Given the potential for drama at your current place (inconsistently applied changes sounds bad to me) and the fact that the old yard is better drained, and the issues that made you leave don't apply any more to your current situation - I would move back to the old place. It sounds like you trust the YO there too and that counts for a lot IMO.

If you don't mind grass livery head back to the old place.

Less drama, horses will feel its familiar and you know its less muddy. Then keep a look out fir something else.

Given the change in the UK climate I wouldn't be comfortable with grass livery in general but especially if you expect it to be muddy
